Cas Rock Edinburgh

Cas Rock Edinburgh The Cas Rock was a bar/live music venue that closed in 2000. This page is for good times and memories. Please tag us in any of your old photos.

Below are some of the bands that played at The Cas. Feel free to remind me of any that I've forgotten! Norrie Macdonald took over the tenancy of The Lord Darnley in June 1992. After an exstensive refurb including new floor and gantry it was renamed Cas Rock Cafe in Oct/Nov of the same year. It was named after The Castle Rock bar that was situated at the bottom of Lady Lawson Street, where Norrie's

Father had worked. The 'Cafe' was dropped some years later after threatening legal letters from another 'Rock Cafe' that had recently opened in George Street!! The Rab Howat band were always a regular feature and Norrie established the now infamous Saturday Afternoons. The Rab Howat Band played every Saturday therein until we closed. Calvin & Andy came from Basin Street and were the band promoters for the gigs at the weekends. Which were predominantly punk. The first Planet Pop festival was held in 1996 at The Cas Rock to much acclaim, with Teenage Fanclub headlining to a 'packed to the rafters' Cas. Followed by The Fall in 1997. Norrie gave the pub for free to the organisers that were made up of people from local bands and friends, lots of them! Something was lacking for alternative music fans during the Edinburgh Fringe festival and something had to be done about it! Norrie's assistant Jooly took over the licence after he left in 1998 and also the band booking. Where she remained until the end in June 2000.........to be added to...
