Illicit Ink

Illicit Ink Evenings of spoken word and storytelling in Edinburgh.

We run spoken word and storytelling events, encouraging performances which play with the dark, flirt with the weird, and punch boring in the head.

Well well. What can this be?

A night of twisted fairytales and unexpected antics in the beautiful surroundings of the Edinburgh International Book Festival Spiegeltent. Part of Jura Unbound and featuring some of the best spoken word and storytelling performers we could gather whilst out picking berries for grandma.

And what's that? It's FREE!?
We do spoil you.

Do you have a passion for Edinburgh’s literary history? The Palimpsest writing comp wanyd respond to this rich literary history and/or to Edinburgh’s geography and urban development, taking as your starting point either a map or a text. The style and genre of the piece are up to you, but submissions should be prose fiction up to a maximum of 3000 words. The contest will be judged by a team of literary critics and published authors, led by Edinburgh-based novelist Doug Johnstone. The results will be announced at public reception in March and shortlisted authors will be invited to read at the reception. There will be one winner, who will receive a cash prize of £250. The winning entry will be incorporated into Palimpsest’s literary history of Edinburgh through publication on their website.

Check it out!

What a great gig! Thanks to all who came out to our first time in Glasgow. It definitely won't be our last. And don't forget, we're back in Edinburgh next week for Skyground!

Elegantly hosted by Derek Johnson, Illicit Ink celebrated Book Week Scotland in Glasgow by inviting professional liars - be they poet, writer, comedian, storyteller, magician... - to tell some home truths, with confessions from Rachel McCrum, Declan Dineen, Gerard Durkin, Keith Gray and Andrew Learmonth.
