The Loud Poets Open Mic is back tonight!

This time, we're teaming up with our friends at Bad Betty Press to bring you three features published by Bad Betty this year!

We're welcoming T. S. Elliot Prize shortlisted Keith Jarrett, Perla Kantarjian, and Colin McGuire to the mic alongside our usual array of excellent open mic-ers.

Don't miss our only October Open Mic this evening, Monday, October 12, from 6.30 pm, at the Scottish Storytelling Centre!

We'll have some open mic slots available on the door, so come down and put your name in the draw!

Don't miss our last Masterclass of 2026!

T. S. Eliot Prize-winning poet, author, and playwright Joelle Taylor is leading this Masterclass on Friday, October 16, from 3 pm, at the Scottish Storytelling Centre!

Have you ever wondered where a poem could go when it leaves the page?

In this Masterclass, Joelle will guide you as you explore what new shapes poems can take on, whether they expand into novels, transform into film, or find their final shape in theatre. With writing exercises throughout, participants will experiment with worldbuilding, employing different forms to consider which elements make each distinct, and which most fire their imagination. Suitable for everyone willing to play and take risks.

Joining us next Friday is Naomi Head!

Naomi joins Joelle Taylor, Rosy Carrick, and Arlo Bayne as part of our last Edinburgh Showcase of 2026 at the Scottish Storytelling Centre on October 16.

Naomi is a writer and poet based in Edinburgh. Her work has been published and shared locally and internationally by Loud Poets, guava poetry, Glyph, Edinburgh Literary Salon, SNACK Mag, and more. They published their poetry zine Kitchen Love with Typewronger Riso Press in 2023.

Naomi also runs The Good Egg Project a writing community based in Edinburgh and they write The Good Egg Project newsletter sharing events, opportunities, and creative prompts for writers of all genres and levels. She is currently studying for her MA in Creative Writing at Edinburgh Napier University and is working on her first novel.

Join us next Thursday to see India de Bono live!

India de Bono was born in Bristol, raised in London, and now calls Glasgow their home. As a disabled, q***r creative, their work work often circles around those intersections, as well as exploring love, q***r creative, their work work often circles around those intersections, as well as exploring love, heartbreak, trauma, and healing – often reworking archetypal myths to explore the cycles of the human condition (with occasional absurdism).

India has performed at the International Book Festival, with the English National Opera, as part of the initial staged reading of Mark Ravenhill’s ‘Angela’, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. India’s debut solo show ‘For the Children of Circumstance’ was performed as part of the PBH Free Fringe in 2025, and they have just come off their second Fringe show ‘My Lore Is Wild’. You can often find them as a regular in open mics in Glasgow and Edinburgh, playing DnD, or in a museum.

Don't miss India live alongside Joelle Taylor and EmmaClaire Brightlyn on Thursday, October 15, in Glasgow at Civic House.

Join us next week for our Open Mic special with Bad Betty Press!

On Monday, October 12, we're teaming up with our friends at Bad Betty to bring you not one, not two, but THREE featured poets. Alongside our usual array of talented open mic-ers, we're welcoming Keith Jarrett, Perla Kantarjian, and Colin McGuire to the stage!

Keith Jarrett’s poetry, fiction and essays have been widely anthologised. His work explores Caribbean-British identity, religion and sexuality. A multiple slam champion, he teaches at NYU London and holds a PhD from Birkbeck, University of London. His collection Hide Me Under the Blood and I Shall Be Satisfied (Bad Betty) was a PBS spring recommendation and is shortlisted for the Forward Prize 2026; his debut novel is forthcoming.

Perla Kantarjian is a Lebanese-Armenian writer from Beirut. Winner of the 2026 William Saroyan Short Story Prize, shortlisted for the Bridport Prize, and longlisted in the National Poetry Competition, Perla is widely published, including work in Electric Literature, Mizna, The Rumpus, Wasafiri, and more. You Must Become Field (Bad Betty Press) is her debut poetry collection.

Colin McGuire is a writer from Glasgow who lives in Leith. His short story ‘Fruit Potential’ featured in the Q***r Anthology Fierce Salvage published by 404 Ink in 2025. His new pamphlet Ultraviolet is out with Bad Betty Press. He regularly facilitates workshops in prisons, libraries, schools, and community spaces.
