Christmas Newsletter … Hello all,
Just a reminder that, as this is Christmas Eve-Eve, we are not meeting, either in person or on Zoom. We’ll start again NEXT Tuesday (30th December) and I’ll email in advance of that,

Meantime – I hope you all have a Happy Christmas, Cool Yule, belated Hanukkah or early Shab-e-Meraj.

Let’s all hope (and pray as appropriate) that 2026 is not as bonkers as 2025. The idea that problems are only properly solved by CCC … Compassion, Co-operation and Compromise … has been Blowin’ in the Wind for too long.

Hello all,

That was a great gig last night. Thanks for supporting, those who did. Also thanks to the Zoomers who attended and paid - it helps a lot, especially when storms reduce the live audience.

Here are my thoughts and plans for the next 3 Tuesdays …

Tuesday 16th –
Gill and I will be singing carols and Christmas songs over a beer or two with the church choir, in the Crown Inn (aka “The Middle”!) in Penicuik.
Paul is tied up with school stuff, so there will be no Zoom session. Sorry.
I suggest that all who want to have a sing join us in the Crown and that we tell heather that there will be no-one at The Miners’Club. Please let me know if you want to sing at the Miners’.

Tuesday 23rd – Christmas Eve-Eve – let’s give it a miss. We’ll all be snowed under (perhaps literally) with Christmas prep.

Tuesday 30th – Let’s meet up as usual for a sing and a Zoom. It might be quiet, but it would be good to see everyone.

Our Christmas pudding is an old pal … Steve Turner - https://steve-turner.co.uk/. Steve is known as a pioneer of highly sophisticated English concertina song accompaniments, stretching the boundaries of traditional forms, with one of the best voices in the business. He is a multi-instrumentalist, who also accompanies himself on the cittern, and also plays mandolin and tenor banjo.

You can expect lots of new and old English folk songs, along with an occasional Stephen Foster. Steve has worked with Martin Carthy and Nancy Kerr.

Community Arts Penicuik (CAP) is presenting "To See Oorsels" on Sunday 30th November, 3pm at St James the Less Church Hall (Broomhill Rd, EH26 9EE) in celebration of St Andrew's day? Ruth Kirkpatrick and Ron Fairweather are fabulous, entertaining, warm-hearted, local professional storytellers and a wonderful afternoon is guaranteed!
