We're still here, we're just taking a break. Finding a suitable venue in Edinburgh that'll accommodate an MMA event is terribly difficult and continuing to subsidise the financial loss when using a smaller venue isn't sustainable.

Thomas Hepburn won the last SFC competition and will shortly be setting of on an all expenses paid week long training camp at Tiger.

A special thanks to Graeme Beveridge at RG Autotech for contributing to this trip. We like to think we're still one of the most geneous promotions in Scotland, this is the second time we've funded an experience and the feedback has been amazing.

All the best Thomas!

It has been brought to my attention that former SFC director Rob Crumb has sadly lost his battle to cancer.

My involvement in the SFC came at a time when Rob wanted to exit due to ill health and unfortunately I never got to meet him formally.

I feel it is important to acknowledge his passing on the SFC page as he helped create the promotion. He is refereeing in the picture.

My thoughts are with his friends and family,

Khalid.

Good Morning,

I'd like to begin by thanking all participants, staff, volunteers and spectators for creating another successful show.

SFC 13 was particularly challenging with over 7 bouts cancelling due to illness, injury and quite honestly poor excuses.

As a relative newcomer to MMA I pour my heart and soul into every event and go above and beyond the call of duty to do what I can in order to allow keen participants and willing spectators the chance to be involved. The SFC is the cheapest in Scotland for both entry and drinks prices whilst being hosted in the Capital City just minutes away from two train stations.

In addition, the prizes available are unmatched in terms of value and it is absolutely heartbreaking when things don't fall into place. The few spoil it for the many and it needs to stop. If anyone thinks organising an event is easy money they are sorely mistaken and I'd be happy to show you the losses incurred from each show. The SFC is a passion and not run as a profitable business because I put enjoyment over earnings. I feel terrible when a venue sells out and the crowd are eager to see many bouts only to find there is a reduced card. Thankfully this time multiple BJJ participants entertained the audience in between the MMA bouts and I am extremely grateful.

Relating to the inner workings of a show there are individuals campaigning for mandatory examinations such as head scans which can cost up £400 - £1,000 per individual as well as blood screening. They are also looking to create some sort of "authority" in mixed martial arts which will no doubt incur fees, regulations and red tape. Whilst I fully support the protection of all fighters somebody has to be the big bad wolf and ask who is paying for this? If promotions are to pay then ticket prices will go up and become unaffordable. If fighters need to pay only a few will participate. You cannot put a cost on a life and I will do whatever is possible to protect all participants but in a manner that remains both reasonable and affordable.

Blood screening is relatively low cost and in partnership with www.SelfTesting.uk the SFC will become the first MMA competition to offer instant HIV testing during medical checks at all future promotions. This will not affect ticket prices or fighters pay and will be fully funded by the promotion. It is hoped Hepatitis B and C will be screen at the same time when those instant test kits become available.

Furthermore in order to encourage dedication and participation from all parties the SFC will raise the pay for amateur fighters to £200 regardless of outcome.

Those participating in No-Gi BJJ submission events will also be paid, a first for any UK promotion I believe.

In no particular order I would like to thank;

- Lauriston Hall for hosting our event
- Fiona at McNichol vehicle hire for the two Luton vans
- Ross, Matthew, Mark and Ian for the cage setup and break down
- John for refereeing
- Grant, Alan and Michael for judging
- Cameron for pre-cage entry check
- Sean for time keeping
- Jeden and Cyndi for videography and photography
- Majid for organising the BJJ and refereeing
- Greaeme at RG Autotech for organising the BJJ and sponsoring the event
- ABC paramedic services for medical checks and event cover
- Danny Henry and Dunedin Facilities Management for security
- Karen at Silk Nightclub for bar staff
- All gyms, fighters and BJJ participants

A special congratulations to Steven Ray who was presented with a replacement belt that he originally had to relinquish before the SFC was taken over by me.

A second special congratulations to Thomas Hepburn for winning the main event and securing an all expenses paid trip to Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand.

The next SFC will take place on Saturday 3rd February 2018 at Lauriston Hall in Edinburgh and tickets will be available in due course. Video footage will be placed on our page and YouTube channel when they become available.

Until next time,

Khalid.

UFC Fighter Steven Ray had to return his belt prior to SFC being under new ownership. He's asked for a replacement so we thought we'd help him out and present it to him this Saturday.

Main Event

Note applications to fight are still being considered, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hepburn and Jessimer both have impressive win records and will fight for an all expenses trip to week long Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand.

Due to the limited number of fighters and their availability it has been decided that instead of making fighters wait for prizes or belts we will make every attempt to offer 1 trip to Thailand per show or every two shows. This will undoubtedly benefit the development and careers of some fantastic athletes.

SFC 14 in September will feature a previous winner or winner from SFC 13 to fight for a trip to Thailand. Every effort will be made to offer winners the opportunity continually over time.

Adam Battley vs Darren Raeside - Battley via Unanimous Decision

Jordan Struthers vs Mattis Zaharovs - Zaharovs via Majority Decision

Richard Dickson vs Brian Lyons - Dickson KO by head kick at 00:41 in Round 1

Nathan Hughes vs Thomas Hepburn - Hepburn Submission by arm bar at 02:40 in Round 3

Graeme Armstrong vs Thomas Jessing - Draw

My Views...

In an interview given to The Sprawl MMA I picked Hughes vs Hepburn as the fight to watch and I think it was a good call. Both individuals have an impressive record and gave an outstanding performance.

I was pleasantly surprised at the ferocity of the McCrone vs Harris fight and absolutely delighted it was the opener for the evening. What a way to start the show!

It was brilliant to see two young contenders - Battley and Raeside - showcase their skills. Despite losing Raeside took home Fighter of the Night Award courtesy of RG Autotech.

Dickson's deadly kick ended his bout against Lyons surprisingly quick and certainly shocked the crowd with its precision.

Pro Bout - Graeme Armstrong vs Thomas Jessing

I feel it is important to state the my position on the outcome of the pro bout which was scored as a draw. The fight was impressive and I couldn't have called it but I feel I need to clarify the circumstances surrounding the bout and current situation.

Firstly, I am not a judge so my opinion is just that, an opinion. I employ three experienced individuals who have judged the majority of previous SFC events and place my trust in them to score each fight to the best of their ability. Also I cannot watch every second of every match due to my role and even if I could I do not know how to score correctly.

Secondly, like in most sports the ruling of officials are final. There is currently no appeals procedure in the SFC because an outcome has never been contested or queried for any prior event I have been part of. If I were to become involved in the scoring of any fight then I do not remain impartial and undermine the experience and position of each judge, something which I am not willing to do.

Thirdly, at the request of David Galbraith (Jessing's manager) a short meeting was held at the end of the event with each judge explaining how they scored each round and where they thought both fighters did well and not so well. At the risk of changing their outcome the judges have agreed to review any available footage and report back to me with their findings which I will then make public. Whatever the outcome there is always an unhappy party when decisions come down to the judges scorecards and that's the nature of such a sport.

Fourthly, all judges recommended that a re-match was the best possible way to resolve the dispute and despite it being uneconomical I have offered both parties that opportunity. I personally back the judges decision in a re-match as the fairest solution to the dispute.

Fifthly, with regards to the weigh in for this fight and in fact all weigh ins I was placed in an awkward position and so resorted to video recordings to accommodate the majority of individuals. I acknowledge that many fighters have full time jobs and taking time off work to attend a weigh in is not financially viable. I was contacted to authorise video weigh ins which I agreed too in order to avoid impacting the lives of those competing at the show.

Furthermore the flight Thomas Jessing was supposed to be on was full and he could not travel a day earlier due to work commitments. In the interests of honesty flights are never booked too far in advance as more often than not the fight card changes and the cost of paying for an in-used flight is simply to much to bear on a small independent promotion.

It is true Graeme Armstrong's weigh in was not accurate and his scales showed 300g less than the weight he placed on the scales but I could not watch the video as it would not play and tried on several devices. The video was forwarded to David Galbraith who then contacted me to advise of his concerns. I spoke to Graeme and he apologised but by then it was too late to weigh in again.

Graeme weighed in at 77.3kg. The maximum weigh allowed was 77.4kg and so assuming his scales were off by 300g he would have weighed 77.6kg, 200g over in total. In such instances a fighter would work this off and weigh in again however I acknowledge that is not the point of the issue. As a result Jessing's team requested 20% of Graeme's purse which the SFC paid for personally. Graeme was not deducted as it is my responsibility to check all weigh ins but due to technical difficulties I could not review his in time to ask him to re-do it.

I hope all fighters who will be part of the SFC in future will understand and accommodate my request for proper weigh ins going forward unless it is extremely unviable. It must be noted though that every other video weigh in was done on time and correctly and so I thank the fighters and their coaches for that.

As a fan, friend, journalist, fighter or coach I appeal to your good nature to understand that the relationship I have with every individual I come across in the SFC is very important to me but I will never be put into a position where I have to choose one side or another. I am happy to offer my opinion where it is needed and do everything in my power to ensure that all parties are happy. I am also keen to ensure transparency within the promotion which is why the above details have become public and direct from me.

As always the professionalism shown by each individual that was part of SFC12 was outstanding and it was a pleasure hosting another successful evening.

The next even is May 6th at the same venue with 50% of tickets already sold so please hurry if you'd like to see the action live. Visit www.thesfc.co.uk/event/sfc13

It was an absolute pleasure,

Khalid Khames.
