BTS

I’ve been working away quietly on a new body of work developed following my residency with the .

Ive always wanted to take my work beyond the boundaries of a piece of paper or panel. In the past ive physically taken original paintings outside, taken reproductions into woods and created work to be exhibited outside.

But the work always felt separate... distinct... from the world around it. I wanted to find a way to make beautiful detailed paintings and drawings that blend with a space, work with it, collaborate with it as an end product.

After lots of experimentation, I settled on chiffon. A material id used a lot in a previous life where I made clothes and costumes. Originally pursuing a career in textile and design.

I love chiffon, but its hard to work with and I'm still learning how to draw on it to get the effects I want. I have a long way to go but I've not felt this excited ir challenged for a long time. Something new, something scary, something I'm continually failing at day after day, but I'm also learning, succeeding, and having fun...

These pieces will be Installed within the glasshouses, the works invite you to look through, move around, and step into the drawing—into a space that is continually being shaped and reshaped.

Opening 16 June and running throughout the summer in the glasshouses!

HAPPY EARTH DAY 🌍

I hope you all manage to get some time out in nature today. Whether that's the park on your lunchbreak, a long walk, stopping to smell the flowers, just feeling the sun on your face, or listening to bird song.

Remember how lucky we are to have the more than human world and how it needs to be understood, valued, and protected.

We all know (the usually very human-centric) New Year's resolutions, but can we do a resolution for the more than human? What promises or changes would you make to better understand, value, and protect the world that gives us life?

First day back in the studio for almost a month. Ive barely been in since January and with two solo shows looming you'd think id be panicking!

But I'm not.

A past version of me would be. Me a year ago? Probably tearing my hair out. But this year has thrown some big curve balls my way and I've learnt to roll with the punches. A lot of different sports analogies there but you get what I mean.

My dad died in February, I was back for a week in March before shingles took me down. Can confirm, they are not fun. But greif and my body deciding to attack itself have put in perspective what comes first, health. Burn out is real and you can only do what you can do... seems simple right. But sometimes it's not.

When youre self employed times like these are terrifying. But theres no point charging forward. Instead I need to listen to my body and reassess whats achievable with the time that I have.

I dont like the phrase "work smart not hard"... "work smart AND hard" but hard doesn't have to mean grueling or draining.

Let's do this. Smart and hard. Wish me luck.

PS although ive not been in the studio I've started a new body of work for an upcoming solo show yet to be announced... And it's NOT been draining, it has in fact been fuelling me. More next week 🤫

Thrilled to have made it to the Future Folklore exhibition at im Ayr.

Folklore plays a big role in my work, looking at what a contemporary approach to Folklore around the more than human would look like.

"This exhibition brings together artists and makers who use craft as a vessel for storytelling. Weaving together the material and the mythic, they reimagine traditions and invent new narratives for the future."
