Next up in our thrilling selection of films francais is 'L'Assassin Habite au 21' directed by H.G Clouzot in 1942.Monsieur Clouzot also directed Quai des Orfevres and Le Salaire de la Peur (The Wages of Fear aka Which way is Wonga) and Le Corbeau (1943) which was a great success in France, with nearly 250,000 people having seen it in the first months of its initial release. Le Corbeau was released in 1943 and generated controversy from the right-wing Vichy regime, the left-wing Resistance press and the Catholic Church and my Uncle Albert.Which shows it can't have been a bad film!An interesting guy..check him out folks..

In Profile: Jean Gabin

Leading French actor.. sort of like James Cagney, (popularity-wise) in the eyes of the French. To me, he's like your favourite Uncle - interesting and generous. Proletarian to the bone, his performances in La Grande Illusion, Touchez Pas au Grisibi etc assure him of his place at the zinc of any bar.. Merveilleux!
