The Rolling Hills Chorus

The Rolling Hills Chorus Based in Edinburgh, the Rolling Hills Chorus are a group of men of all ages and walks of life who get together to share our love of music

We are a group of men united by our love of singing. The Chorus was formed in 1992. We always sing a capella and mainly in the barbershop style and is directed by Rosalind Johnson. We are members of the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS) and compete every other year at the BABS national convention. On the alternate year we put on a show at the Edinburgh Fringe. In addition we perform

regularly in all kinds of venues, whether it is weddings, society or company events, Remembrance Day commemorations or upbeat modern songs at the Edinburgh Television Festival. We hope to see you at one of these events. Upcoming events are posted on our page. Email [email protected] to discuss how we might bring that special harmony to your own event. The Rolling Hills Chorus welcomes new members. Does harmonising with your fellow chorus members to create a beautiful sound seem like a lot of fun? If so, just pop an email to [email protected]. Then perhaps come along to one of our Tuesday evening rehearsals and take it from there.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Scotland. It often develops without symptoms. There is no national screening programme. The first step is a conversation with a GP.

This , Scotland’s prostate cancer and disease charity, Prostate Scotland is encouraging to take five minutes to learn and share three facts with others:

👉It’s the most common cancer in men
👉It can develop without symptoms
👉From age 50, men can speak to their GP about a PSA test, and higher risk men, including men with a family history (dad, brother, uncle) and Black men from age 45

Awareness spreads through conversation. 🩵Conversations can lead to earlier diagnosis. And earlier diagnosis can save lives.

What a fantastic retreat weekend! 🎶

Huge thanks to our amazing coaches Tim Briggs and Alan Hughes, and of course our brilliant director Rosalind, for an inspiring and challenging few days. We worked hard on “respecting the timbre”, “vowel alignment”, avoiding the traps that disrupt our sound, and bringing energised consonants to our singing. We’ve made some exciting changes to our convention songs and we can already feel the difference — we’re excited about where this will take us! 🎵

And the afterglow didn’t disappoint either — quartets, small groups, ringing chords and lots of laughs! 🎤✨

A brilliant weekend of singing, learning and barbershop. Now it’s back to rehearsal and put it all into practice

It’s retreat weekend 🎶🎶

Bags are (nearly) packed, voices are warmed up, and excitement levels are rising 😄

Tomorrow we head to Lundin Links for our annual retreat— a day and a half of singing, coaching, and a lot of fun 🎶 Not to mention the afterglow🎶🍻

Can’t wait to get working on our convention songs with the brilliant Tim Briggs and Alan Hughes 🙌

🎉 Huge congratulations to two members of The Rolling Hills who were competing this weekend in Germany at the World Mixed Barbershop Convention!

Robin Lickley performed with LUX A Ca****la, achieving their best ever score of 82.1% and an outstanding 5th place in the World Mixed Chorus contest.

Colin Howarth competed with The Light Fantastic quartet, placing an impressive 6th in the World Mixed Quartet Finals.

We’re incredibly proud to have such talented singers in our chorus. Well done Robin and Colin! 👏🎶

“It was my partner who persuaded me to go to the doctor and I’m so glad they did.”

Concerned about someone who has potential symptoms of prostate cancer? Your partner, dad, grandad, brother or friend? 🩵

Then the best thing to do is encourage them to see their GP.
Our leaflet can help you to do that https://www.prostatescotland.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/resources/Prostate-problems-a-guide-for-partners.pdf

🎶 Huge thanks to the brilliant Sam Hubbard Vocal Arrangements for a fantastic coaching day on Saturday! 🙌
An energising and inspiring session full of lightbulb moments 💡, fun 😂 and loads to take away.
🎵 Coaching focus on strengthening vowel alignment & integrity, smooth singing, “Listening louder than you sing”, the no fly zone and much more.
😄 Fun moments we won’t forget, 🍝 the infinitely long piece of spaghetti, “tutu” technique and the comfort zone stressing 🏠 bungalow song.
💙 As always, huge thanks to Rosalind Johnson for her wonderful coaching, constant inspiration ✨, and seemingly endless patience 😇👏
Thanks to David Kyles for his lovely shortbread and to everyone who arranged the tea and coffee ☕️
A fun, inspiring, and hugely valuable session — thanks again, Sam! 👏🎶✨

A great night was had by all as we celebrated Burns Night at rehearsal on Tuesday 🥧🎶
With haggis pies, Burns poetry and plenty of singing, it was a cracking evening all round.
If this looks like your kind of fun, why not come along to a rehearsal and sing with us? New voices are always welcome!

A big welcome to Dan Edwards, our newest bari! We’re excited to have you singing with the chorus! 🎶

✨🎄 What a magical festive finale! 🎄🎶✨
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at our concert on Tuesday night and who stopped to listen to our carolling over the past few weekends. Your warmth, smiles, and incredible generosity helped us raise over £3,700 for Prostate Scotland 💙

A special thank you to Vocality, who joined us for the concert and added something truly special to the evening — it was a joy to share the stage with you ✨🎶

We hope the music brought plenty of Christmas cheer. We’ve loved singing for you all and wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a bright, harmonious New Year! 🎅🎵✨
