The Bedlam Theatre is a unique, entirely student-run theatre in the heart of Edinburgh. Clearly visible from Edinburgh's Royal Mile in the heart of the city, we are a fully operational 90 seat theatre housed in an imposing neo-gothic church. As a listed building and historical landmark, Bedlam Theatre is unique as a space as well as a community, with students maintaining the building themselves th

roughout the year. The Edinburgh University Theatre Company put on over 40 shows a year – workshops and productions alike provide students with a unique opportunity to learn about all aspects of theatre, including lighting design, soundscaping, stage design, producing, directing and acting. Many Bedlamites go on to train at the best drama schools in the country while others move directly into the professional world, including critically acclaimed playwright Ella Hickson and Fringe favourites, ‘The Penny Dreadfuls’. The EUTC presents ‘Mother Clap’s Molly House by Mark Ravenhill 13-16 March, 7:30pm, Bedlam Theatre.

It’s London 1726, and Mrs. Tull’s got problems. The wh**es are giving her a hard time, a man in a dress is looking for a job, her husband has a roving eye and the apprentice boy keeps disappearing for ‘a wander’. The play skips between the eighteenth century and 2001, where a group of wealthy gay men are preparing the drugs and video cameras for a s*x party. The play is both an affectionate examination of the vitality and liberation of the molly house’s counterculture, and a regretful comment on the commodification of s*x and love. Mother Clap’s Molly House, a black comedy with songs is a celebration of the diversity of human s*xuality, an exploration of our need to form families and a fascinating insight into a hidden chapter in London’s history.

Please note that the age rating for this show is indicated at 18+ for semi-graphic depictions of s*x. A full list of Content Warnings can be found on our website.
