Primarily Nerine's paintings are an exploration of the mystery of nature within this subject matter, and she has always sought to create a strong sense of atmosphere within each piece.

Her approach is a combination of the observed, experimental and the imagined, she uses a variety of layering techniques within her work both in terms of physical mediums and digital compositional work.

The title draws on the classical idea - found across many ancient cultures, from Greek philosophy to other early systems of thought - that the world is composed of four fundamental elements.

That ancient way of understanding the world continues to inform Bushe's approach as a painter, offering a way to think about the physical and emotional qualities of a place through earth, water, fire and air.

Opening Friday 29th May we also have a lovely showcase of work from Nerine Tassie.

Natural spaces and forms provide the basis and inspiration for Nerine's paintings, in particular woodlands and coastal waters near her home. These landscapes are ever changing and at times daunting, providing an infinite subject matter for her work.
