We have been very lucky to have the chance to interview some of the artists playing at the Eden Festival Voltan Psytrance stage 2015 - First up is Chris Rich/ Dataura
Q1) Hey Chris, thanks for taking the time to talk to us, this year looks to be a very busy schedule for you, how did you get started on your exploration into psychedelic music?
A1) I have always been interested in music in general. I find the whole idea of music amazing. Psychedelic music for me has always been there in one way or another, it was always being played when i was a child by my parents and their friends and i have always felt it to make the most sense to me out of any thing i have listened too. I find it hard to write something that doesn't come out psychedelic
Q2) You have a number of projects on the go at the moment, could you tell us about them and the styles they fit into?
A2)Well i have my psychedelic trance project as Chris Rich which is just for trance music, and then i have Dataura, which is mostly techno and some proggier stuff, but these day it is mostly techno. I also work a fair bit on chillout in the background under this project name. I also have a project with Kris Thomas from Loose Connection and A.k.A EurythmY, the name for that project is Picatrix and that is more bouncy minimal progressive kinda stuff... I used to write under the name MadoxX also but now that project has merged with my Dataura alias
Q3) With a strong release catalogue under your belt what can we expect from you in the future?
A3)I'm releasing my new E.p "Pyrite Music" on Bom Shanka Music in the next couple of months, and shortly after i will be releasing an E.p from Dataura on Digital Mind Records called “Dellusions”. Other than those i have various releases coming out on other labels such as Digital Shamans, Woo Dog, and others.
Q4) What would be the Highlights of your career so far and some advice for the budding producer out there?
A4) Well when i signed with Bom Shanka was one of my favourite moments, also pretty cool to get to play in such beautiful amazing places and meet so many of my favourite artists from over the years! Highlights for me were playing in New York and in the Sahara, but the whole journey is amazing, im greatful everyday for what i have. My advice is stay original, don't try too much to sound like anything else, don't listen to too much of the genre you want to write all the time, and experiment with new synthesisers, samplers, and make up your own tricks
Well here you go a fresh off the press interview from the main man himself!
