As many of you know, Into The Music has been generously supported by Creative Scotland (Creative Scotland ) over the past year. Thanks to this funding, we have been able to provide free workshops, develop new instruments, expand our outreach work, and continue creating opportunities for children and young people with learning disabilities to explore music in a relaxed and inclusive environment.

To celebrate the end of this funded period, we would like to invite you to the Into The Music Showcase at Pianodrome ( )

https://www.citizenticket.com/events/pianodrome/into-the-music-showcase/

This will take place on Friday 26 June, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at Pianodrome Bruntsfield (St Oswald’s Centre, 41 Montpellier Park, Edinburgh EH10 4NB). Doors open at 12:30pm. Entry is free or by donation, but tickets can be booked in advance through the Citizen Ticket link above.

The showcase will be an informal celebration of the project and will feature performances by some of our talented young musicians. Over the past year, they have been exploring sound, improvisation and creativity through our free weekly workshops at St Margaret’s House. It will be an opportunity to reflect on the past year, share some of our music, and thank everyone who has supported the project along the way. This will be a relaxed, accessible event and everyone is welcome!

Last month of funded activity! We are grateful for the support of that has made it possible to provide free accessible improvisation sessions and develop new instruments with inclusion and fun as our main focus. This week i have been making bridges and started stringing this giant zither (guitar for scale). It is going to be wall mounted and played by turning a big wheel with different plectra attached to its spokes. Can’t wait to see how our super talented participants will respond to it!

June is going to be busy and we are planning to have a big celebration with some of our wonderful participants to mark the end of the current project.

Watch this space for more information soon :)

Thanks to Creative Scotland’s ( ) generous funding we are able to provide FREE music sessions for children and adults with learning disabilities and/or other additional support needs living in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Our music sessions are participant-centred and we are striving to provide a platform where everyone can take part, whatever their ability or musical experience, and explore the possibilities of group music-making in a fun and informal way. We will keep introducing new musical instruments as we go.

The sessions are relaxed, with minimal guidance, focusing on creating soundscapes rather than songs. Participants are welcome to explore the space and instruments at their own pace, with no pressure or expectations. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in too.

The Friday sessions are free, but booking is required as spaces are limited to five participants per group.

Age groups:

1pm: 16+ years
2pm: 12–16 years
3pm: 12–16 years

Our new instrument - a four sided obelisk shaped monochord (tetrachord?) - is nearly ready. We hope it’s a fun instrument to play for our participants and we would like it to encourage collaboration. Still waiting for the cello strings to arrive, but the rest of the three sides are strung and ready to rock! Here I am, trying it out and fine tuning the buzzing strings. Thanks to and their generous funding that allows us to experiment with new exciting ways to make music accessible for everyone!

Some progress with a little zither and a mini monochord for our portable set of instruments. This will allow us to reach more people and groups in the community in the coming months

Also, the frame for our giant 4-sided column monochord is up!

Today we are launching our in-house label with our first two releases by Ray (Ray Of Light) and Angus (Red Robber). These recordings were recorded live and all music is led by the participants. We feel very lucky to have captured some of the magic of our sessions and be able to share it with you!

All proceeds from Ray’s album sales will support Ray’s therapy sessions with and school. All proceeds from Angus’ EP will be donated to (https://intothemusicrecordings.bandcamp.com/)

Some progress from the last couple of weeks:

- We’ve made a new bowed psaltery for our portable set that will enable us to do more outreach work. Waiting to be strung :)

- We are finishing a mechanical extension to help our lovely frequent participant R fret one of his favourite instruments - the mandola - and create a bigger variety of sounds. Loosely based on the concept of the taishogoto.

-We are working on a new zither for our portable set.

It’s been such a wonderful year for Into The Music and we have learned so much. Thank you for your support and trust. And a big thanks to for their generous funding and to .scotland for providing such an inspiring work space.

Before the year ends we have a couple of releases of music by workshop participants launching our Into The Music Recordings label, but more about this in another post.
