Thanks to Creative Scotland’s ( ) generous funding we are able to provide FREE music sessions for children and adults with learning disabilities and/or other additional support needs living in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Our music sessions are participant-centred and we are striving to provide a platform where everyone can take part, whatever their ability or musical experience, and explore the possibilities of group music-making in a fun and informal way. We will keep introducing new musical instruments as we go.

The sessions are relaxed, with minimal guidance, focusing on creating soundscapes rather than songs. Participants are welcome to explore the space and instruments at their own pace, with no pressure or expectations. Parents and carers are encouraged to join in too.

The Friday sessions are free, but booking is required as spaces are limited to five participants per group.

Age groups:

1pm: 16+ years
2pm: 12–16 years
3pm: 12–16 years
4pm: 7–11 years

Our new instrument - a four sided obelisk shaped monochord (tetrachord?) - is nearly ready. We hope it’s a fun instrument to play for our participants and we would like it to encourage collaboration. Still waiting for the cello strings to arrive, but the rest of the three sides are strung and ready to rock! Here I am, trying it out and fine tuning the buzzing strings. Thanks to and their generous funding that allows us to experiment with new exciting ways to make music accessible for everyone!

Some progress with a little zither and a mini monochord for our portable set of instruments. This will allow us to reach more people and groups in the community in the coming months

Also, the frame for our giant 4-sided column monochord is up!

Our free Friday workshops will continue until the end of June 2026 🙂🎶🎵

We can’t believe it’s almost the end of the year, and what a year it has been for Into The Music! We are grateful for all your support and the beautiful music we’ve made together and for the generous funding by

Today we are launching our in-house label with our first two releases by Ray (Ray Of Light) and Angus (Red Robber). These recordings were recorded live and all music is led by the participants. We feel very lucky to have captured some of the magic of our sessions and be able to share it with you!

All proceeds from Ray’s album sales will support Ray’s therapy sessions with and school. All proceeds from Angus’ EP will be donated to (https://intothemusicrecordings.bandcamp.com/)

Please donate generously!

Have a lovely holiday. Cannot wait to make some more wonderful music with you in the new year!

Some progress from the last couple of weeks:

- We’ve made a new bowed psaltery for our portable set that will enable us to do more outreach work. Waiting to be strung :)

- We are finishing a mechanical extension to help our lovely frequent participant R fret one of his favourite instruments - the mandola - and create a bigger variety of sounds. Loosely based on the concept of the taishogoto.

-We are working on a new zither for our portable set.

It’s been such a wonderful year for Into The Music and we have learned so much. Thank you for your support and trust. And a big thanks to for their generous funding and to .scotland for providing such an inspiring work space.

Before the year ends we have a couple of releases of music by workshop participants launching our Into The Music Recordings label, but more about this in another post.
