Room for Art is a social prescribing project run by Art in Healthcare in at least 7 areas of Edinburgh.

We provide visual arts workshops on a weekly basis to adults with the aim of improving health and wellbeing.

I really enjoyed seeing the OOSOOM exhibition at Summerhall this week. It was Fantastic to see so many artists from Room for Art represented. Well done everyone for for making the work and getting it to the exhibition. It all looked brilliant!!!

Room for Art in Gilmerton

Our newest Room for Art Group in Gilmerton have been getting to grips with printmaking and have some beautiful pieces. Next stop clay!

‘I have tried several art techniques in the past in the hope of finding a relaxing and enjoyable hobby but have found them difficult and stressful which clearly defeats the purpose. The tutor Heather has magically taken the stress out of art for me by providing really simple techniques which actually give very pleasing results. Heather is lovely, with a calming presence, she has a great awareness of people's needs and is very accommodating. Being part of a small group has been very helpful to me as I find it almost impossible to find the motivation to do things alone. It's also great to have a space where I can make big mess with paints!’ Room for Art Gilmerton participant

One of our Room for Art groups had an inspiring trip to the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh this January. They had a tour of the galleries and the opportunity to make some work in the art studio. Everyone found it a lovely start to the term.

We are grateful of funding to run online art workshops as part of ‘Corrie in for Winter 2022’ from Thrive Edinburgh this year. We’ve been running a weekly online art session with different artists leading each week. On Tuesdays from 2 -3pm over the last 3 weeks it’s called Room for Art and chat for health and wellbeing. This has given us an opportunity to take inspiration from some of the art works in our collection. This weeks workshop will be led by artist Leo du Feu and we will be learning about watercolour painting and looking at ‘Angus landscape from Lumley Den’ an artwork by Edinburgh born artist Margaret Mitchell.

Our Room for Art and Chat Online workshops for wellbeing have been running over the last three weeks on Tuesdays. This week the session was led by artist Sally Price and we were looking at sculptural paper artworks by Julia Gardiner.
This session involved folding, scrunching and making 3D forms with paper. Let us know if you’d like to join the group.

Room For Art Away Day at The McHattie Room in Saughton Park

Thanks to all who attended our wonderful sunny ☀️ Away Day at Saughton Park on Tuesday.
We were fortunate to be treated to some really inspiring creative workshops inspired by nature from and .lucchesi.art
Some really beautiful artworks were created, lots of chat, cups of tea and lunch outdoors!
Thank you all for making it such a lovely day out!
And thanks to Saughton Park for providing the perfect venue.

Our Room for art workshops are finished now for the summer break. but we’ll be returning at the beginning of September.
