A 4-week course to enhance your photography skills with photographer and tutor Sam Dickinson.

Class Details
This 4-session course. is the perfect introduction to photography for anyone looking to improve heir picture-taking skills. Tutor Sam will cover concepts such as how to master manual control on digital cameras, understanding the creative roots of film, and support students to learn how to extract professional-quality images from a smartphone.

🌳 Sketching en Plein Air Workshop 🌳
Saturday 4th July from 10am - 3.30pm with Siri France

Come and spend a day working outdoors!

This is a chance to spend a good few hours drawing in the landscape. Students will find a spot which suits them along the canal path, and work on a couple of compositions, using pencil and watercolour. We’ll look at what makes a strong composition, at mark making and gathering information, and using colour in a loose but effective way.

After lunch, we will continue working in the studio, looking at our sketches and considering how to develop them further. We’ll have a variety of materials on hand, so that students can take their work in a direction which suits them personally. At this point we’ll look at several relevant topics such as colour, abstraction and cropping. Referring to contemporary artists will help us take a creative approach to landscape painting.

All materials are provided. Students are welcome to bring a packed lunch for the short lunch break. Alternatively there are excellent local shops and cafes close by.

These were created using water-based oil paints, and I thought they were too lovely not to share. It’s always nice to see how differently everyone approaches the same medium and develops their own style over time.

🎨 Watercolour Still Life Workshop 🎨
Wednesday and Thursday 1st and 2nd July, with artist and tutor Siri France

A 2-day workshop, exploring watercolour through a series of simple still life set ups, we'll look at what watercolour does best - light, colour and transparency.

Each set up will be a chance to learn more about using watercolour with fluency and confidence. We will look at layering of colour, brushwork, edges and planes, and composition, all in a relaxed Sunday kind of way. To inspire us each class, we will begin by looking at the work of both traditional and contemporary watercolour artists.

All materials are provided. Students are welcome to bring a packed lunch for the short lunch break. Alternatively there are excellent local shops and cafes close by.

Saturday 13th June from 1.30pm - 4.30pm with Sheila Chapman

Class Details
Come along and have fun getting to grips with the wonders of ink drawing and painting!

Experiment with mark-making using a variety of tools, including sticks, dip pens, droppers, and brushes. You’ll then learn how to create detailed drawings in this exciting medium before exploring “ink and wash” techniques by adding watercolour.

No experience necessary — beginners are very welcome! Full instruction and all materials are provided in a friendly, creative atmosphere.

Tea, coffee, and biscuits included.
