Leith New Music

Leith New Music Leith New Music presents an unconventional locally curated series of new music performances The events are designed to be informal, accessible and fun!

Leith New Music is an unconventional locally curated series of new/contemporary music performance events in Edinburgh. The public performances showcase new music submissions from emerging artists from all music and cultural backgrounds, performed by a curating resident contemporary music ensemble appointed for each event. The artists are given the opportunity to workshop their new pieces with the

musicians prior to the performance. The evening concludes with performances by local interdisciplinary artists from wide practices including electronic music, dance, and free improvisation. We hope this creative melting pot provide platform for artists and audience from wide variety of cultural and musical backgrounds to engage, network and celebrate creativity. The committee

The committee members are responsible for programming, selection of scores, design and delivery of events, and communications. Current members are Emma Lloyd, Chris Lyons and Atzi Muramatsu. We welcome any interested parties to join in our in-person programming discussions. We are local artists putting the events on in our spare time, but we strive to be transparent and open. It's also a great way to meet and get to know each other! Write to us at [email protected]

FEATURING!

BARE performs at LNM #5 TRICK or TREATISE
Sunday 10 November at Leith Depot

BARE consists of Bede Williams (trumpets), Alex South (clarinets, electronics), Robin Mason (cello), and Emma Lloyd (violin, electronics). Individually we are involved in an eclectic mix of disciplines: contemporary classical, orchestral and chamber music, conducting, baroque violin, free jazz, music/dance improvisation, and multispecies musicking. Together, we focus our performances on an open dynamics of uncertainty, exploring performer freedoms and constraints in an improvised framework.

Belatedly, THANK YOU to everyone who came to Leith New Music #3: Re-in Vent Nocturne! We are so pleased we managed to bring life to so many new works, as well as continuing to programme very exciting interdisciplinary acts. It was electrifying - well, some of us literally got electrocuted Sam Wood!

Thank you to all artists and performers -

At Leith New Music #3, Sam Wood (aka samwooddoowmas) will perform an electronic music set using a variety of techniques including tape loops, digital processing and analogue instrumentation.

Samwooddoowmas is an eclectic musical project by Sam Wood, boasting a variety of genres between ambient, techno and beyond. He is also an exciting visual artist. Sam chose the name because he knew he wouldn’t forget his own name backwards and forwards. Sam is known for performing in unusual spaces, even a urinal, and using instruments in strange ways live, such as a bass guitar played with a bicycle.
