🔸UpStage - link to access the live online event and the performances in the webpage below.

There will be a book launch of the Mobilise/Demobilise project led by the co-founder of UpStage Helen Varley Jamieson, an introduction by Dutch performance artist Annie Abrahams and three cyberformances:

8 March is also International Women’s Day, and this event celebrates women’s creativity and women’s engagement in open source software development. UpStage was initiated by and has always been led by women, the platform’s development team is currently led by a woman, and most of the artists in these performances are women.

On Saturday 8th March "Dance Plague" is live-streamed on UpStage in the ‘And Now…’ series of digital performances celebrating twenty years of this unique online venue!

Dance Plague is Organic Theatre’s dopamine dressed danced promenade devised and performed between physical and digital stages in collaboration with the amazing dancers of Damn Fine Dance, Pam Woods and Phil Smith.

Captured as a moving selfie through the ‘banal technology’ of a smartphone at Wilton’s Music Hall and at the Barbican Centre in London, the promenade is performed by two extravagant characters – Flanker Origami – coming from a world of digital performance, who, as Smith writes, are trapped in ‘an ontological performance of characters in the face of existential threat; attempting to exist in fiction, emerging from a crisis of liveness in the backwash of a global epidemic’.

They are accompanied by the Interlopers (Damn Fine Dance and Pam Woods), a group of ‘followers’ who assemble themselves with the pulse and rhythms of the dance, as it drifts within the private and public spaces of cultural and theatrical sites.

Stay tuned👀

Thrilled to begin working this week on Dance Plague with Flanker Origami in London, starting in the atmospheric environments of Wilton’s Music Hall - ‘the most important surviving early music hall to be seen anywhere with an outstanding architectural and archaeological significance’.

So grateful for all the amazing collaborations and wonderful people who are making this project possible. Particularly grateful to Damn Fine Dance, Pam Woods, Phil Smith, Chiara Menozzi, Zena Sayers and Ariane Oiticica.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟CLOSING STAGES is a walking performance/assemblage by Organictheatre edited into a short film for social media, which celebrates the joy in the knowledge that everything is temporary while capturing the fading moments of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023 in a city saturated with the ephemerality of 3,500 performance acts.

*****
Flanker, a character from a digital performance in search of a physical stage, assembles to the posters of Fringe performers, and to what remains of their creations as a magnified spectacle in the streets.
