“I HAVE NO RHYTHM!”

Are you sure? Or has nobody explained it in a way that works for you yet? 😉❤️

Meet Grześ, our experienced Djembe teacher who has a wonderful talent for making even tricky rhythms feel achievable!

Because not everyone learns in the same way.

👂 HEAR IT – Listen to the rhythm.
👀 SEE IT – Watch the demonstration.
👏 SAY IT – Count, clap or speak the beat.
🥁 FEEL IT – Play, practise and let your hands discover the rhythm.

Different explanations. Different approaches. One amazing feeling when it finally clicks! 😍

Our Djembe classes are about so much more than playing drums.

Never played a djembe before? PERFECT. 🪘❤️

Seriously.

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to already know the rhythms.
And you definitely don’t need to be worried about getting everything right!

Our Sunday djembe classes are friendly, welcoming and designed so beginners can learn at their own pace.

And one of the things we love most about our community?

Our more experienced students help our beginners too. 🙌

Someone gets lost in the rhythm?
We help them find it again.

Someone isn’t sure of a technique?
We show them.

Someone makes a mistake?
We keep drumming! 😄

Because that’s how learning works.

You listen.
You try.
You get lost.
You find the beat again.
You laugh.
You learn.
And suddenly you’re playing something you never thought you’d be able to play. 🪘🔥

Drumming is about more than learning rhythms too.

It’s connection.
Concentration.
Community.
Music.
And the incredible feeling of creating one sound together.

So if you’ve been saying:

“I’d love to try drumming one day…”

Maybe this Sunday is the day. 👀🪘

Do you know how our Kids Capoeira classes really started? ❤️

Take us back to 2020/2021…

Restrictions were changing, children had spent months missing activities and friends, and families were desperate for their kids to MOVE again.

But we had a problem.

Capoeira didn’t have a governing body giving us specific instructions about how we could safely return to classes.

So what did we do?

We followed the wider sportscotland guidance…

…and took Capoeira OUTSIDE! 🌳🤸‍♀️🤸

Was it perfect?

Definitely not. 😂

We live in Scotland after all! 🌧️

But then the children arrived.

They saw their friends again.

They ran.
They kicked.
They played.
They laughed.
They trained together.

And honestly… seeing the joy on their faces was priceless. ❤️❤️❤️

Those sessions taught us something we have never forgotten.

Physical activity for children is about much more than exercise.

It’s friendship.
It’s confidence.
It’s belonging.
It’s play.
It’s learning.
It’s feeling part of something.

And that experience helped shape what our Kids Capoeira programme is today.

We want children to develop agility, balance, coordination, confidence and resilience.

But above everything else, we want them to LOVE moving.

Because if movement brings joy when you’re young, there’s a much better chance you’ll keep moving as you grow. 🙌

That’s our bigger mission:

Active for Life. ❤️🌍

And it all started with a group of children doing Capoeira outside during one of the strangest periods we can remember.

How amazing is that? 🥹❤️

02/10/2026

Who are we, what do we do… and WHY do we do it? ❤️🌍

If you look through these pictures, you’ll see lots of different things.

🤸 Children learning Capoeira
👨‍👩‍👧 Families moving together
🔥 Teenagers and adults training Capoeira
🪘 Adults learning West African djembe drumming
💃 Samba
🙌 Movement and wellbeing team building workshops

They may look like completely different activities.

But they are all connected by one mission:

Helping people become Active for Life.

We don’t believe there is one “right” way to be active.

Some people love sport.
Some love music.
Some love dance.
Some want to train hard.
Some simply want to move, laugh and meet other people.

And that’s OK.

For us, movement is about so much more than exercise.

It can build confidence.
It can help us connect.
It can introduce us to different cultures.
It can challenge us.
It can make us laugh.
It can give us a community.
And, most importantly, it can be something we genuinely look forward to doing. ❤️

From a young child discovering movement through play, to an adult picking up a djembe for the first time, we want people to have opportunities to keep learning throughout their lives.

Axé Boom Boom is an Edinburgh-based social enterprise, which means our work also has a wider purpose.

Income generated through our programmes and corporate work helps us create more opportunities for children, young people and communities to access sport, movement and wellbeing.

So yes, we teach Capoeira.

We drum.

We dance Samba.

We move.

But underneath all of that, we are building confidence, connection, wellbeing and community.

That is why we do what we do. ❤️

Move, Drum, Play
Active for Life Everyday. 🙌

What an incredible energy! 🪘🔥🙌

Our Axé Boom Boom students, together with Kasia .with.kasia and Grześ recently had the opportunity to take part in an amazing djembe workshop with Mohamed, organised by Sue and

And WOW… what a workshop! ❤️

The room was full of rhythm, concentration, laughter and energy, and our students absolutely loved it. They were learning new rhythms, experiencing a different teaching style, challenging themselves and enjoying making music together.

They’re still buzzing from it! 🙌🪘

For us, this is such an important part of learning.

It’s not only about coming to your regular class every week. Meeting different teachers and musicians gives you a chance to hear something new, experience another approach and keep growing.

We’re also really excited that Axé Boom Boom and Drumming Hands are working closely together to create even more opportunities for people to experience drumming, movement, culture and community. ❤️🌍

We believe music and movement have an incredible ability to bring people together, no matter their age, experience or background.

A huge thank you to Mohamed for sharing your knowledge and energy with us, and to Sue and Highland African Beats for making it happen. 🙏

More rhythms.
More learning.
More collaboration.
More community. 🪘❤️🔥

It is:

🤸 Movement

😂 And plenty of laughter!

Almost a month of Capoeira Kids! 🥋❤️

It helps children develop:

💪 Strength & coordination
🧠 Focus & listening

🌱 Resilience & perseverance

And there’s something extra special happening too…

A HUGE thank you to our amazing teens and young adults who came along to play music for our younger students! 🥁❤️ Hannah and Logan!!!

You brought the energy, rhythm and spirit of the roda and helped make the class extra special.

It’s wonderful to see our older students supporting and inspiring the younger generation.

Well done! 👏 We’re so proud of you!

And we’ve had a little lesson in community too. 😄

After an unexpected last-minute venue change, our Monday classes moved back to our “new/old” venue at

Our families were absolutely brilliant and supported us through the change. ❤️

That’s true community, when plans change, we adapt and keep moving together!

Thank you to all our amazing families and our fantastic young musicians. 🙏
