I had the honour of MCing a riot on Thursday - Slamageddon at the Wedgewood Rooms for .

Such a great room, and such talent and range from the contenders. Poetry Slams are amazing... but also can be brutal. 12 poets stood up to the mic, just one took the prize.

Massive congratulations to - who won the judges over and wears the crown. And it was a mightily impressive pool of talent.

Doubtlessly the other slamsters are feeling miffed and licking their wounds, but they will feel bluddy chuffed with themselves once the initial disappointment dissolves.

Our shared mission was to entertain the crowd, and I think we certainly achieved that goal.

I was delighted to share the stage with you all:

Yesterday I celebrated my 18,933rd day on whatever planet this is by taking part in my first ever rap cypher. It was an amazing experience... for me... with apologies to everyone in the crowd - thanks for tolerating my shoutfest. Listening back to the recording is cringe beyond belief!

Thanks to the crew for putting on a cracking event. The quality of everyone else was amazing.

Personal highlights for me were blistering sets by and . I also properly enjoyed - in particular his take on The National Anthem.

I'll probably get some counselling before deciding whether or not to try again. But at least I can say I've done it once.

But what a night.

How's your resolution to get out and about more going? Beat the January blues... just a fiver for an evening's entertainment. Support local acts - some of us will be good! (Also, some will doubtlessly be utter filth... you have been warned...)
