Eastbourne Lamb Folk Club - Back by demand, the legendary Pete Atkin
Singer, guitarist and pianist Pete Atkin makes a rare folk club appearance on Wednesday, 20th May when he performs at the Lamb Folk Club, High Street, Old Town, Eastbourne.
All are welcome to the event, the doors will open at 7.30pm with an 8pm start. Admission is £8 cash on the door, early arrival is recommended, and any enquiries can be made on 01323 728268.
Pete generated an intensely loyal following during the 1970s with six fine albums setting his own tunes to the witty, touching and entertaining lyrics of Clive James. Back in 1973, legendary rock critic Charles Sharr Murray listed Atkin/ James songs alongside Lennon and McCartney, Jagger and Richards, Bowie and Elton John in a piece about Britain's greatest songwriters. Championed by the likes of John Peel, Bob Harris and Kenny Everett, another huge fan is Stephen Fry who describes the songs as 'funny, sad, beautiful and true, full of memorable lines and joltingly unexpected images and ideas'.
Following the release of Pete's sixth album, 'Live Libel', in 1975, an unplanned career break from songwriting occurred when Clive rose to international fame and Pete built a glittering career as a BBC Radio producer. Fans then had to wait until 2003 for the next album of original songs, 'Winter Spring', and their last collection, 'The Colours of the Night', was released in 2015.
If you are unfamiliar with the songs of Pete and Clive, this is worth a watch!
