Eastbourne Lamb Folk Club - Back by demand, the legendary Pete Atkin
Singer, guitarist and pianist Pete Atkin makes a rare folk club appearance on Wednesday, 20th May when he performs at the Lamb Folk Club, High Street, Old Town, Eastbourne.
All are welcome to the event, the doors will open at 7.30pm with an 8pm start. Admission is £8 cash on the door, early arrival is recommended, and any enquiries can be made on 01323 728268.
Pete generated an intensely loyal following during the 1970s with six fine albums setting his own tunes to the witty, touching and entertaining lyrics of Clive James. Back in 1973, legendary rock critic Charles Sharr Murray listed Atkin/ James songs alongside Lennon and McCartney, Jagger and Richards, Bowie and Elton John in a piece about Britain's greatest songwriters. Championed by the likes of John Peel, Bob Harris and Kenny Everett, another huge fan is Stephen Fry who describes the songs as 'funny, sad, beautiful and true, full of memorable lines and joltingly unexpected images and ideas'.
Following the release of Pete's sixth album, 'Live Libel', in 1975, an unplanned career break from songwriting occurred when Clive rose to international fame and Pete built a glittering career as a BBC Radio producer. Fans then had to wait until 2003 for the next album of original songs, 'Winter Spring', and their last collection, 'The Colours of the Night', was released in 2015.
If you are unfamiliar with the songs of Pete and Clive, this is worth a watch!

Eastbourne Lamb Folk Club
Described by Heaven magazine as 'the best folk singer of the Netherlands', we are delighted to welcome Linde Nijland back to the Lamb on Wednesday, 6th May. Upstairs at the Lamb Inn, High Street, Old Town, Eastbourne, BN21 1HH
All are welcome and admission is £8 cash on the door. The doors will open at the usual time of 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
On this occasion, as a tribute to her favourite singer, she will be including beautiful renditions of a number of Sandy Denny's timeless songs.
Having recorded a sincere tribute album to Sandy, Linde was invited by legendary producer Jo Boyd to perform with Fairport Convention at The Barbican in 2009.
I got intrigued about the different versions of this song (Who knows where the time goes). It’s been covered so many times, by so many diverse people, from Rufus Wainwright to Judy Collins, but I think my favourite comes from the artist Linde Nijland” Tom Robinson (BBC6)
Linde will be joined on stage by multi-instrumentalist, Bert Ridderbos ['seemingly a one man orchestra' fRoots magazine].
Please come along if at all possible to support the club and to keep music live....you will not be disappointed.

Eastbourne Lamb Folk Club - Liz Simcock is back by demand
We are delighted to welcome Liz Simcock back to the Lamb Folk Club on Wednesday, 15th April. Upstairs at the Lamb Inn, High Street, Old Town, Eastbourne BN21 1HH. Admission is £8 cash on the door, all are welcome, and the doors open at 7.30pm for an 8 o'clock start.
Her successful debut in 2023 demonstrated why she is recognised as being one of the finest female singer songwriters in the country.
Her songs – often autobiographical and highly personal – are immediately accessible to audiences and injected with poetry, emotion and splashes of humour. Liz counts Richard Thompson, Clive Gregson, Boo Hewerdine and Joni Mitchell amongst her songwriting influences. In 2015 she toured with Clive Gregson revisiting the Gregson & Collister songbook but Liz’s main focus has always been on her own songwriting and live performances. Her sixth album is in the making, working title “Into The Light”.
“Remember when you found those Vashti Bunyan and Karen Dalton records? Remember how you thought “I wish I could have been there”? Well, Simcock is right here, right now. People will rediscover her albums in thirty years’ time, lavishly compile sleeve notes and wish that they were there too. She’s that good. … Armed with an acoustic guitar, a brilliant voice and a sharp, songwriterly eye, Simcock is the precious stone glinting on a pebble beach” (downendfolkandroots.com).
Thanks for your time and we hope to see you there.
