We are very excited to announce that this weekend ꜱᴛᴜᴍᴘ ʀᴀᴛ ʙʀᴇᴡɪɴɢ ᴄᴏ will be opening the doors to their taproom for the very first time!

It’s been a pleasure to watch their journey unfold over the past year and, most importantly, to see their vision come to life here at Hall Farm.

Stump Rat is about more than producing a great pint. Together, we’ve created a sustainable farming partnership that connects the brewing process with the farm. Our Aberdeen Angus cattle now enjoy nutrient rich spent grain, creating a circular system that helps reduce waste while enriching the land and the cattle that graze it. This partnership strengthens the estate’s long-term commitment to responsible land management.

Now you can come see for yourself!

In 2025, we set plans in motion to invest in the construction of a new reservoir, representing a major long-term investment in the sustainability and resilience of the Raynham Estate.💧

The 120,000 cubic metre reservoir is now fully operational and is filled during the winter months. This stored water provides vital security during warmer, drier periods, supporting the production of high-quality, loose-skinned salad potatoes through our strategic growing partnership with Holkham Emerald.

The reservoir also gives us greater flexibility to irrigate other high-value crops across the estate, helping to safeguard both yields and quality as climate and weather patterns continue to change.

Careful management of water resources will become increasingly important in the years ahead. This reservoir represents a significant step towards a more resilient and sustainable future for the Raynham Estate, strengthening our ability to manage changing conditions while supporting productive and responsible land management.

During a recent tree safety inspection, one of our mature trees, a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) was sadly found to have significant decay at the base of the trunk.🪵

To assess the extent of the issue, we carried out a tomograph survey. This involves placing a series of sensors around the trunk, which send stress waves through the wood. These waves travel quickly through solid timber but slow down when passing through decayed areas or cavities, allowing us to map the internal condition of the tree. The resulting tomograph revealed a large zone of decay at the base.

Due to the tree’s location beside a driveway and public footpath, the report concluded that removal was the safest option.

Although initially estimated at around 130 years old, the tree was actually closer to 150 years so would have likely been planted around 1876, and stood approximately 100 ft tall!

While it’s always sad to lose such a tree, its story doesn’t end here. The timber will be milled and repurposed for future building projects.⚒️

A real full-circle moment ✨ This evening we enjoyed Skinny Dip IPA — a brew that feels a little closer to home than most.

Stump Rat Brewing Co. joined us at Hall Farm late last year, and since then we’ve had the privilege of watching their journey unfold. Safe to say, the whole team approves!🍻

After over a year of training, our CEO, Tom Townshend is preparing to take on the 57-mile Norfolk Superhero Challenge this June. Teaming up with Emily Everard from The Nola Gym, they’ll be competing together as ‘The Nola Way’ team.

“In 2025, my father sadly passed away after battling dementia for some time. One thing this experience taught me is just how much the way we look after ourselves in our younger years can impact our long-term health.” — Tom Townshend

If you would like to support Tom and Emily on their journey, while helping raise funds for the Norfolk Superhero Fund, an initiative focused on getting children across Norfolk more active — please visit the link in our bio.

A huge thank you for your support.
