East Lothian Elf had the most overwhelmingly warm welcome at Our Community Kitchen East Lothian! He helped prep vegetables and joined in to a chair yoga session before sitting down with some of the happiest, friendliest people he ever met! …And when you are spending time with your loved ones on Christmas Day, they will be serving up warm hospitality and a festive meal for over 50 people! OCK is now FULLY BOOKED FOR CHRISTMAS DAY. EL Elf wishes he could have still been in East Lothian to join in the festivities.

Based in Haddington Bowling Club, OCK exists to reduce isolation and loneliness of people of all abilities by arranging fun activities, growing their own food, and bringing people together to eat nutritious home-cooked food around a large table.

On behalf of the Carers of East Lothian Carers Centre staff and volunteers with him on the day, he would like to thank, from the bottom of his heart, all the welcoming racecourse staff and generous attendees to help raise 🌟£400🌟!!! Everyone was so friendly, and EL Elf was a bit overwhelmed by the number of people who wanted selfies with him, including winning jockey, Ryan Mania, and the owners of Forged Well. Carers UK estimate HALF of UNPAID CARERS have cut back on essentials like food and heating because of hardship brought about by their caring role this year.

East Lothian Elf went back to his roots and caught up with the wonderful people at East Lothian Foodbank ! He was delighted to see both familiar faces and traditional elf fashion.

While winter brings celebrations for many, it also brings added pressure for families already struggling. Budgets stretch thinner, heating bills rise, and the expectation to provide whether for festive meals or simply to keep warm can feel overwhelming. For those facing hunger and financial hardship, this time of year doesn't bring relief. It brings anxiety.

Did you know THE VALUE OF UNPAID CARE WORK IN SCOTLAND IS ESTIMATED AS ALMOST THE SAME AS THE ENTIRE BUDGET OF THE NHS?!?!?

East Lothian Elf ’s Personal Assistant appreciates (in a tiny of way) what it must be like to be an unpaid carer… She made all 10' and 20kg of EL Elf with her own (very) fair hands on a whim 4 Christmases ago. He has become a larger-than-life, well-loved member of the household each December since. She looks after him as best she can, without getting paid or asked to do so. His PA takes him everywhere. (He’s exceedingly unsteady on his feet) She does all his admin. (It’s tricky to type in mittens.) If he takes a tumble, she patches him up. (He injures easily and often…) Much of this is done in isolation, but it can’t all be done alone. EL Elf’s PA has asked for and gotten overwhelming help from hundreds of people. If you look closely, you may see a glimpse of some of them as they (literally) support EL Elf in the photos…The amazing of East Lothian staff, volunteers and everyone he’s met across all the organisations, without exception, have been so generous and helpful. The people THEY support are so lucky! And props go to the PA’s Glamorous Assistants for making the ‘How did he get up there?!?’ photos possible and easing the PA’s burden a bit when she lets them.

East Lothian Elf moseyed on down to the centre of community life in East Linton, East Linton Community Hall l to help Carers of East Lothian staff and volunteers parcel up Mission Christmas toys and gifts. Thank you so much, Cash for Kids Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife & Falkirk and Forth 1 ! So many footballs to make so many young children happy!

Carers of East Lothian Carers Centre support many different types of unpaid carers, including Parent Carers who provide care for their children with additional support needs. They do so THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, not just at Christmas. Experienced care support workers help affected families navigate education, health and social care systems. CoEL also facilitates peer support groups and is the place to go to find out about relevant local activities, resources, training and grants. And if you are a young carer, they can even help you to access support through East Lothian Council's Young Carers Service.

East Lothian Elf volunteered with the Royal Voluntary Service to help take Lorna to her appointment at the East Lothian Community Hospital. While he prefers public transportation, he is a very safe driver. Like other RVS Volunteers, he gave up his time not only to drive but to provide company and support to Lorna while waiting for her appointment. Afterwards, they enjoyed a cup of tea and a biscuit with Jeanette in the lovely RVS Café in the hospital foyer.

Royal Voluntary Service transport doesn’t just get people to appointments — it can help carers who are juggling so much in their own lives and in the live of the person they care for. The service can help to reduce carer stress, and helps prevent burnout.

Reliable, door-to-door, practical support means fewer missed appointments, less pressure on carers, and better wellbeing for everyone involved.

East Lothian Elf managed to catch the cast of The Brunton 's 🎭 panto🎭of The Wizard of Oz in between their busy schedule of performances at the Corn Exchange, Haddington and Loretto Theatre, Musselburgh. The festive season is not complete without a visit to a proper panto like this!
