Our folk club on the Hartlepool Headland has occasional guest nights. Next up, Bryony & Alice! The Fishermans Arms is a small but perfectly-formed pub, so tickets are strictly limited. Book now.

Hailing from West Yorkshire, Bryony & Alice are long-time purveyors of English folk music, united by a fascination with local folk songs and tunes.

With their signature sound of fiddle, harmonium, tenor guitar, body percussion, and intricate vocals in their trademark regional accents, they combine a respect and understanding of tradition with their own contemporary style to present a unique repertoire of harmony, heritage, and Northern humour.

Casting a spotlight on the traditions, tales, and rituals of Yorkshire, their 2022 debut duo album, ‘A Year Too Late and a Month Too Soon’, and 2023 winter album, ‘Wesselbobs’, received 5-star reviews and global airplay, leading to major radio and festival appearances and European tours, placing them firmly at the forefront of the English folk scene.

"Straight up, beautiful and bold folk singing" Mark Radcliffe - BBC Radio 2

"A sparkling tribute to Yorkshire's folk heritage" Songlines

“Well-known on the grassroots scene for multifarious adventures with different outfits, this pair pitch together their fiddle and guitar and passionate vocals with winning vitality on a vividly enticing bunch of traditional music from their home county of Yorkshire. No fancy frills here – we get songs of fratricide, coalmining, betrayal, cockfighting and drinking, delivered in all their raw glory. Honest, wholesome and thoroughly enjoyable.”
Colin Irwin - Mojo

Sam’s album is out today! We’re so looking forward to his interpretations of Nic’s songs at Durham Folk Festival.

Sam Carter Sings Nic Jones is out today!

Hearing Nic for the first time about 20 years ago unlocked something for me. I’ve pored over these arrangements for years, to get inside them and learn what it takes to deliver a great story song with just guitar and voice, which Nic did as well as anyone. I’m proud to be sharing this ode to one of my musical heroes, and I hope you’ll enjoy listening.

CDs are available exclusively on Bandcamp. Physical sales and downloads are what keep independent artists going, so if you want to support the music directly, that's the place. You can also stream it in all the usual places.

This is a solo album but very much a team effort. Huge thanks to:
All at Celtic Connections Festival, for a great night!
Carla Feuerstein: engineering & mixing
Sam Proctor at Lismore Mastering
Ross & Jon at JMG Studio: artwork
Dave Peabody: for the beautiful cover portrait of Nic, taken at the Penguin Eggs album shoot!

Thanks to the Jones family, for giving this album their blessing.

Lastly, thanks to Nic for the continued inspiration. 💙

We've had a number of people getting in touch to ask about trading at the festival. Durham is a wonderful city full of local independent businesses, from crafts to clothing to cakes and coffee - and an amazing indoor market. Instead of running a craft market to satisfy your retail cravings, we'll be signposting you in our programme to some brilliant local traders. Huge thanks to City of Durham Parish Council for all their support.

A message from Amy, our Volunteer Coordinator:

Thank you to everyone who has applied to be a volunteer steward at this year’s festival. We’ve received your forms and are working through them to allocate your roles; we will be in touch over the next few weeks with further information.

In the meantime, we have temporarily paused applications so we can complete this piece of work. We will open applications back up with details of what stewarding roles are still available.

Camping is Here!

Festival camping, Durham-style.
We've been working since late 2025 on finding you the best option for no-fuss, convenient camping with all the amenities you need to fully enjoy your weekend.

For our first year in Durham, we’ve chosen a more sustainable, lower-impact model using existing local accommodation and transport. Rather than operating a temporary field campsite with limited facilities, we’re partnering our audience with Durham Grange Club Campsite just a 5-minute ride from Durham city centre. The site has hardstanding pitches, electric hook-ups, toilets, showers, laundry, motorhome waste facilities and an on-site stop for the festival shuttle. The site welcomes both members and non-members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

We promised our (very!) patient audiences who have been waiting for camping details that they would not miss out on Earlybird ticket prices. Book your pitch at www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-sites/england/north-east-england/county-durham/durham-grange-club-campsite/, email your campsite receipt to [email protected], and we’ll give you an access code for the SUPER EARLY BIRD weekend ticket price of £110. That's a £30 saving on full price tickets! Plus, 4-night autumn stays at Durham Grange get an additional discount of £20 - it will be applied automatically at checkout.

We're very excited about this giant step forward - but please be aware that, as with any commercial site, spaces are limited. We suggest early booking to secure your spot.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review in the new MOJO for Sam Carter sings Nic Jones.

Our Director Joanie writes: 'As someone who had the privilege of working extensively with Nic Jones on his return to live performance, I can honestly say that Sam Carter captures the effortless complexity of Nic's playing and shares with him the most extraordinary vocal power. The interpretation of these songs is magical, and I cannot wait for this concert at Durham Folk Festival.'

Really pleased to say that there's a lovely review of Sam Carter Sings Nic Jones in this month's MOJO!

It's great to see the record featured. Thanks to everyone who has streamed 'Master Kilby' and pre-ordered the album via Bandcamp so far. It's out next Friday 26th!
