So after 155 years, the 140th Big Meeting concludes. The Chair of the Durham Miners' Association explained the reality of financial pressures on Saturday.
Changes to the structure and expenditure are coming to preserve the future of the Big Meeting. This is crtitical to preserve the biggest trade union gathering we all enjoy.
Despite the cuts that are required, your support is urgent.

There was a special moment toward the end of the 2026 Miners’ Gala, as the final band and banner group to pass back up through the city almost reduced the crowds to silence with a magnificent performance of Gresford.

As the sun sets over Durham we’d like to thank everyone involved in making the 140th Miners’ Gala a huge success.

From the bands, the banner groups, the stewards, the medical teams, the spectators and everyone in between - thank you!

Some may have arrived as strangers, but you’ve all left as our Marras.
