Dunelm Consort & Players are a Durham University ensemble, specialising in early music

Founded in 2015, the Dunelm Consort and Players brings together some of the best singers and instrumentalists of Durham University. They present termly concerts of varied works with a particular focus on the Renaissance and the Baroque. Previous works have included Handel's Coronation Anthems, Bach's St John Passion and Actus Tragicus, Buxtehude’s Jesu Membra Nostri, and Zelenka’s Miserere perform

Looking back on a great year for Dunelm! After two wonderful performances, we were delighted to have recieved the award for Best Society at the DSM Awards and runner-up for Best Society at the Palatinate Awards, for which we were also nominated for Best Concert. At the end of this year’s cohort of Exec, Consort and Players, we want to thank all who’ve contributed to a fantastic year. We’re exceptionally grateful to everyone who has made it possible, to all our players, singers, audience members, supporters, and all those behind the scenes who have participated in creating a stellar year for Dunelm. Stay tuned for what comes next!

It was wonderful to be chosen to be one of the societies performing in this year’s Durham Student Music concert in Durham cathedral, revisiting some highlights from Purcell’s King Arthur. It was fantastic to be able to perform in this space and to share some of what we’ve been up to this year. Congratulations to all who took part and many thanks to Durham Student Music for organising a magnificent evening!

Following the announcement of Core Exec roles for 2026-27, we are pleased to announce Wider Exec roles. A reminder that you may provisionally apply for both a Core Exec and a Wider Exec role, for which you may become eligible if not appointed to the Core Exec. We look forward to receiving applications until the deadline of 23:59, Sunday 21st June. Do get in touch if you have any questions.

We are delighted to announce that the narrator for our upcoming performance of the music from Purcell’s King Arthur is none other than Durham Cathedral’s very own precentor, the Rev’d Canon Michael Hampel. A Durham alumnus and strong participator in its theatre scene during his time at the university, he will be outlining the non-musical sections of the work (written by John Dryden) to supplement our performance of Purcell’s music.
