Clonoe v Edendork ⚫️⚪️
Clonoe made the short journey to Edendork on a warm summer evening for Round 6 of the intermediate League, knowing they would face not only a determined local rival but also challenging conditions, with temperatures remaining in the high 30s throughout the contest. The intense heat ensured the stamina, game management and squad effort would be crucial, but Clonoe rose to the occasion with a performance to record a convincing 3.16 to 0.11 victory.
From the throw-in, Clonoe looked sharp and purposeful. They moved the ball at pace and precision, creating scoring opportunities through strong teamwork and smart movement of the ball. The ladies quickly settled into their rhythm, with scores coming from a variety of sources across the team. The forwards were clinical when chances presented themselves, while the midfield pairing worked tirelessly around the middle, contributing both in attack and defence. Further evidence of Clonoes attacking intent came from the back line, with defenders confidently breaking forward to add valuable scores and support attacking moves.
At the opposite end of the field, the Clonoe defence remained disciplined and well organised, limiting Edendork's opportunities and forcing them to work hard for every score. Strong tackling, communication and relentless work rate helped the Rahillys establish control for long periods of the opening half.
As the half progressed, Clonoe's dominance on the scoreboard began to reflect their superiority in general play. A well- worked goal provided the platform for a strong first half display, while a steady stream of points ensured they maintained momentum. By the interval, Clonoe held a deserved 1.07 to 0.05 advantage, having played some excellent, composed football.
The second half saw Clonoe build further on their lead. While the temperatures continued to test both sets of players, the Clonoe ladies showed impressive fitness levels and determination, refusing to allow their standards to drop. Midfield continued to provide a strong platform, winning crucial breaking ball and linking defence with attack, while the forward unit remained constant threat whenever possession entered the scoring zone.
Two further goals during the second period effectively put the game beyond Edendork's reach. Important scores continued to come from throughout the team, with contributions from the forwards, midfielders and defenders highlighting the collective nature of the performance.
Although Edendork continued to battle hard and managed to add points to their tally Clonoe's defensive structure remained solid throughout. The full- back line and half- back line worked tirelessly to close down space, while support runners tracked back effectively to ensure Edendork were restricted to limited scoring chances.
As the final whistle sounded, Clonoe emerged worthy winners on a scoreline of 3.16 to 0.11, securing 3 league points and sending them top of the league table. The result will stand them good as their league campaign continues, with four games remaining to play.
