Following a quiet spell on socials (but hyperproductive period in my studio), I’m excited to finally share PROCESS, created as Fife’s response to the national project Remembering Together
In 2022, Greenspace Scotland was given funding by the Scottish Government to initiate & commission artists in every local authority across Scotland to co-create something with communities to sensitively mark the pandemic.
Following a period of extensive engagement, communities demonstrated their desire to forge something with a positive impact & legacy in response to this difficult shared experience. They wanted the Fife response to focus on investment in its people, specifically kickstarting our collective journey to wellbeing. This would provide a path to a positive legacy growing out of a shared trauma.
Communities focussed on the vital role Fife’s landscape played during lockdown & were keen to create something which both celebrates our rich landscape, whilst encouraging further engagement with it to boost wellbeing.
The work – housed inside a camera obscura - contains 2 handbound books documenting Fife’s collaborative response alongside additional creative materials.
500 copies of PROCESS are currently being gifted to civic spaces across Fife. In addition, a digital publication is accessible online until 2030 (katie-fowlie.squarespace.com/process-remembering-together-fife)
With sustainability at its core, careful consideration was given to each material used and was created exclusively from G . F Smith materials.
I had the enormous pleasure of working with J Thomson Colour Printers when producing this artwork, also enabling us to carbon balance the printing & production of PROCESS.
This labour of love has been an enormous privilege. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed, came along to workshops, & for the support received from Greenspace Scotland and Fife Coast & Countryside Trust
