Jerry & Elizabeth in Scotland Ministering in Scotland through the arts; in partnership with New Scottish Arts

Our 25 year dream has been to use our gifts and talents in theater and writing to minister in Europe, specifically to reclaim the arts and the artists for God. We are working with New Scottish Arts to add theater based upon Scripture to their repertoire.

This is a “commercial” that will be going out to the churches here to encourage involvement in this year’s Dundee Nativity. I thought it would give you a glimpse of this one aspect of the ministry here. There are clips from about 4 different years’ Nativities.

As you watch, please pray for the following:
1) Our interns, Olivia and Trace, join us in September. Pray for their fundraising efforts, travel, and potential issues with their visas.
2) The Dundee Nativity, which I am still writing. Scotland has been slow to reopen, so pray that restrictions will not prevent the event from occurring.
3) Please pray for wisdom and imagination as we look forward to a new season at Platform Arts.

We have just finished filming and editing a new piece - a children’s show based on Jesus’ Parable of the Lost Coin and Parable of the Lost Sheep. LOOKING FOR THE LOST.

I wrote this when we had a performance in a primary school at a time when a young Scottish woman was interning with us during her gap year. So…as you will notice…one of us had to play 2 characters. We hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to share it - especially with those families you know with young children. Enjoy!!

We are delighted to share with you THE DAY BETWEEN. This was actually the first script I wrote in 2010 as we were preparing to go on the field as missionaries in the arts. I had always been intrigued with the verses in Luke that tell us that Mary kept the promises and proclamations surrounding Jesus’ birth “tucked away in her heart.” I thought that if she treasured them in her heart, surely she brought them out in times of need.

THE DAY BETWEEN is a look at Mary as she brings out the promises and memories of Jesus’ birth to try to make sense out of his death. It has been a popular script for us to use at both Easter and Christmas. And being a 2-person script, we thought it would be a perfect choice for us to film for you during this lock down.

We pray you have a blessed Easter and we invite you to share it with friends, families, and churches as we all celebrate Easter in a different way this year.

On the Saturday between the crucifixion and the resurrection, Mary, the mother of Jesus, takes out the memories and promises surrounding the birth of her son to…

This Palm Sunday, believers won’t be gathering together in church buildings to celebrate the Triumphal Entry. Instead, consider this creative worship experience for families with children (or for those who are still young at heart) to use as we shelter at home.

By participating, your family will encounter a group of young donkeys at donkey school as they hear a Bible story about another young donkey who met Jesus.

This project is in two parts. Watch the attached video (part one). Then decide whether your family will sit and listen to the performance video, or have some creative fun with it.

We’ll post the family worship experience to be used on Palm Sunday a little later in the day.

How to participate:

Last week when local artist, Photo Exhibition by Maggie Brodie, and her sister came to set up the exhibit, I (Jerry) was waiting outside for them to arrive. A man was reading the posters at the venue entrance for two upcoming events. We began chatting and he asked me about the show, stating that he didn’t believe in God. He asked that if he came, would I try to convert him. I told him that both plays were stories from the Bible about women that God used in mighty ways, but that there would be no altar call. We continued to chat and he just may come. Please pray for him and that the Father would continue to draw this man to himself.

As always, you are a vital part of this work and we are so blessed to have your prayers and support. Thank you for your faithfulness.

Next weekend we will open our next production: WOMEN OF GOD, WAVES OF GRACE. This is an evening of theatre specifically for the Dundee Women’s Festival: An evening of exploring women who encountered life-changing events - and characters! Two one-act plays feature women who faced the challenges of their day with grit, comedy and unexpected grace!

The plays will run both Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. This will be the first time we have run a performance for 2 nights and we ask that you join us in praying that both nights will be well attended. Please pray that the Father will use this to build our audience base. We also ask you to pray for the cast - all local Dundonians (except for Elizabeth and Jerry, of course): Mae MacDougall, Shauna Gauntlett, Linda Wrightman and Graham Wrightman. We will also be including a local dancer - Laure Lewis - who will perform between the two plays.

During our time in Texas last month, we visited the Pantego Christian Academy in Arlington and hung out with some fantastic drama students. We performed THE PARABLE OF THE PERSISTENT WIDOW and THE PARABLE OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN. Then we had a great discussion about what the Bible says about creativity and the arts. Thank you, Brandi Dalton, for the photos!

It was wonderful to share with students at First Baptist Church, Floresville, Texas, last night about how God created people to be creative. We are thrilled to be using the creative arts to bless Him!
