We're on the road again over the summer.. Dates for your diaries...Our first exhibition coincides with the Broughty Ferry Gala Week 2026 then a few weeks later we've been asked back to the Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities Arts and Craft trail because it was so popular last year! And finally will be finishing August with a smaller display in the . The displays at each exhibition will be different, well...mostly different! - we might sneak in a few of our favourite builds to more than one

May is local History Month – so now giving a shout out to Mills Observatory.
Built in 1935 from a bequest from John Mills – a linen manufacturer. It remains free to visit to this day and is one of a very few observatories open to the public in the UK.

It's the detail in the models that bring them to life- this small roll-on roll-off ferry includes a full passenger cabin, complete with cafe.

May is Local History Month
The Abertay Lightship once guarded the entrance to the River Tay by giving mariners warning of the Abertay Sands – a four mile long sandbar that stretches out from Tentsmuir point and continues to expand at about 5metres each year. The lightships were finally retired in 1984 and replaced by lightbuoys.

May is Local History Month: The RRS Discovery sits proudly on the waterfront but did you know there is a sculpture in the City Quay area (By Marion Smith) which shows the structure of the boat. The sculpture is located where the ship was originally built.

May is local history month .. Better not do a botch job of it! Did you know that the term botch job is often associated with Dundee's Tay Bridge Disaster? In December 1879 the railway bridge collapsed in a storm, sending a train and at least 59 people violently into the freezing River Tay. The blame fell upon the Bridge designer Thomas Bouch and his name popularised the term "Botch Job". Some historians dispute that this was the first time the term was used but we're laying claim to it anyway!

Happy Earth Day!

At first glance, building models from plastic Lego bricks doesn’t seem to fit well with the environment – but did you know that all Boatshed Bricks models are made from at least 95% preloved/used bricks generously donated by people like you.

Globally it’s reckoned that 80% of plastic toys end up in landfill or other dumps, eventually getting eroded away to become microplastics which can pollute our land and oceans.

When people donate a bag of used Lego to us it is cleaned and sorted ready for use in our next creation. Often there are other items mixed in such as toy cars etc which we will put aside and if they are complete will be donated to charity shops, kids clubs and so on. If pieces of Lego are broken, we’ll still look to try and use them behind the scenes so ensuring the absolute minimum goes into our (recycling) bins.

So if you have the inclination to have a clear out and bin that Lego that’s been in the loft for years, please consider donating it to us, we’ll give it a new lease of life and in doing so, raise funds to save lives on Scotland’s shores.

Donations can be dropped off at the lifeboat shop in Broughty Ferry or contact us to see if we can collect.
Thank you
