Perspective in Isolation - Glen Gibb
13th August - 7th September

Perspective in Isolation is well and truly underway.

This exhibition is an incredible celebration of Glen Gibb’s creative journey, through all the wonders and worries of life.

It meanders through various styles and choice of media which are heavily influenced by the circumstances of his life at the time.

Image 1 - The earlier works on show are his theatrical oil paintings which exude a sense of humour and energy such as this piece above, Put a bit of colour in your life. The collection then moves on to his countryside landscapes which are reminiscent of Hockney’s paintings; rolling hills with bold use of colour and stylised shapes.

Image 2 - Then, we move on to Glen’s lockdown studies such as this piece titled Dunstane Plantation. We all remember the challenges during lockdown. For Glen, these challenges presented themselves in the form of becoming a full time carer for wife, Joan who was struggling with dementia. This meant that Glen had to adapt his way of working and change media from consuming oil paints to the simple use of pen and ink. The lockdown series commenced in purely black and white studies before Glen quietly introduced glimpses of colour here and there using pen and aquarelle pencils.

Image 3 - Glen eventually found himself back in the hands of a full colour embrace, as reflected in this piece titled Highroad & Traprain.

Image 4 - Since Joan relocated locally into a home, Glen has found himself meandering back to his roots, creating wonderfully vibrant paintings with complex compositions, often reminiscent of fond memories. A captivating example is this piece titled Carers’ Night Out. It reflects a lively night out with a local carers group at a Tom Jones tribute act. With cans of G&T in hand alongside cups of sliced lemon and ice, the group had a fabulous night, not only watching the act but also the animated audience adding to the energy!

I can’t tell you how pleased I am with how this exhibition has turned out. We feel incredibly honoured to represent Glen.

This is an incredibly moving exhibition that takes you through Glen’s creative journey, from his theatrical and humorous paintings, exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy, to the intimate works he created during lockdown, using minimal materials while fulfilling a caring responsibility.

A powerful and deeply personal body of work, Perspective in Isolation offers a unique insight into Glen’s creativity, resilience and perspective.

Perspective in Isolation - A solo exhibition showcasing the creative journey of Glen Gibb

13 August - 7 September 2026

Local artist Glen Gibb has had a remarkable journey, both as an artist and on a deeply personal level.

His solo exhibition, Perspective in Isolation, is a retrospective of his work, tracing his artistic evolution from the stylised oil paintings of his pre-lockdown years, through the intricate pen-and-ink masterpieces he created during lockdown while caring for his wife, Joan, and finally to the wonderful story-filled paintings that mark his return to the easel.

This is a very special exhibition and we feel so honoured to host it for Glen.
