Here is an rare opportunity to hear and see two of our local choirs in a joint concert. Please come along, you will be most welcome.

The first rehearsal of the choir’s 25/26 season will be held on the 20th of August at St Teresa’s Church Hall.

This will mark the start of another busy year for us. Events will include, singing at Christmas lights switchons, busking in shopping malls and markets, entertaining folk in care homes and concerts at different venues throughout the Dumfries & Galloway area. We could also have joint concerts with other groups such as Dumfries Town Band and possibly, with other choirs. The climax of the year, as always, will be our Annual Concert.

Underpinning all of this are our weekly rehearsals. This is where the work takes place but also, where the real fun and banter happens every Wednesday between 7.30 and 9.30. The choir is ably led by our inspirational Conductor, Rory McLatchie and our accompanist, the very talented Declan McGarva.

We are a cheery bunch of some thirty men who are passionate about singing but just as passionate about having fun. We are always on the lookout for new recruits, so if you enjoy singing in an encouraging and very friendly atmosphere then come and join us.

Last night on the 23rd of May Dumfries Male Voice Choir sang in their 72nd annual concert. It also marked the 75th year of the choir’s existence. Much has changed since the choir was formed all these years ago. However, I am sure that the group of choristers who sang in 1950 enjoyed the same emotions when singing to their audience as we did last night, trying to bring joy and a sense of togetherness to ours.
The evening was compared by William Williamson who is well known to us and to the border’s region. His witty and knowledgeable comments nicely tied together the evening’s entertainment.
We sang a wide range of of pieces: songs from the Shows, a trilogy of Elvis classics, several songs of American origin, some songs of a classical theme and ending the evening with a couple of choir classics. I like to refer to them as real belters, Rachie and Gwahoddiad.
In addition to the choir performances, we had guest artists; The National Youth Choir for Scotland performed in both halves of the concert delighting the audience with their beautiful performances.
Also performing was Adam Workman a young pianist shortly to study at the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow. He played a number of classical pieces and one of his own compositions to the delight of the audience.
The audience departed the concert expressing their enjoyment to us all. Not only that, when we left the building, the rain was falling, the first rain for several months. The choir can always rely on a Dumfries Male Voice Choir concert to bring a rainy night.

Christmas is a Comin.

The Christmas season is nearly with us and the Choir is filling up with the Christmas Spirit; not the type of spirit you imagine more the spirit of good will.
We will be singing in the Loreburne Shopping Centre in Dumfries on Saturday the 14th Dec. at 2pm until 3pm.
Why don't you come along to listen or even better you could sing along.

We will also be visiting Lochduhar Care Home on the 20th of December to present a Christmas Concert for the residents.
