It’s International Lynx Day!
It’s an annual celebration to raise awareness about the conservation of the four wild lynx species.
Here at DZC we have Carpathian lynx, Daisy, Dave and their son Dakota, who have recently moved back into their new-look home after its makeover.
If you’ve visited us over the past few weeks, you’ll have noticed the metal structure of their outdoor area is a lot higher, giving them more opportunities to explore and utilise higher spaces.
We’ve also added more complex enrichment opportunities too, with a larger climbing structure as well as incorporating some of the elements the lynx liked during their temporary holiday accommodation in the binturong habitat (who were relocated to another part of the zoo!) including the triangular shaped platform.
Following visitor feedback, we’ve kept the visitor viewing tunnel, but made it higher and accessible for all, with windows throughout the tunnel now and not just the end.
Plus, we’ve also built a specific off-show training area alongside, which will enable keepers to carry out training with all the lynx together at the same time and we’ve also joined forces with Dudley College students, who are designing and building specific training crates for use in this new area.
Make sure you take a look the next time you’re on site!
