Taken this morning, on what might turn out to be my last visit to the Roundhouse. We live in hope that KCC will grant a reprieve to the theatre, now that the public consultation has closed. 😥

There are only a few days left to comment, to try to save the Roundhouse Theatre - please do, if you haven't already!

For all our FB friends who are interested in the campaign to save the Roundhouse Theatre in Dover:
KCC have now submitted their planning application for the future of the Theatre, to the relevant KCC department, for a decision to be made.

We all know that KCC are looking to consolidate Children's Services and other functions into a building which they already own, but they run the risk of losing a valuable public amenity which has been used and enjoyed by Blackfish and other popular local theatre groups and for other functions, since 2005.

If you wish to comment - for or against - the link to read the documents and to make comments is here (you do have to read the lengthy disclaimer page first!):

https://www.kentplanningapplications.co.uk/Planning/Display/KCC/DO/0062/2022

Points which we hope will result in KCC having to reconsider this proposal are:

1. The Roundhouse Theatre is a registered community asset. These plans mean the loss of a valued community asset in the centre of Dover, which benefits the whole community, as well as providing opportunities for youth development.
2. Despite their statement that KCC will help Blackfish (and the other local drama groups) to find alternative accommodation, there are no other suitable locations for the existing groups to go. Schools have no storage facilities, and only have limited access for rehearsals and productions.

If you wish to use these points, please write them in your own words, not using cut and paste, as the wording needs to be from individuals. The more people who comment to KCC, the more they will be obliged to take notice of the community's strong feelings on the loss of this facility. The consultation closed on 7th May 2022, so time is relatively short to make our feelings known.

Many of you have already signed our petition, but please do take the additional step too, of commenting direct to KCC on the link above.

Support the SORT campaign - Save our Roundhouse Theatre!

Thank you!
