This weekend we're at Hardy’s home, Max Gate, reading poetry. Come and see and hear!

Did you know that Thomas Hardy started building his house in the late 19th century, unaware that it would sit above a Neolithic enclosure?

To celebrate Max Gate's archaeological heritage, we will host performances by The New Hardy Players on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July from 11.30am - 3.30pm as part of the Festival of Archaeology.

The group will perform readings of Hardy’s poems and excerpts from his novels in the garden.

As memories fade to sepia and black-and-white...

Looking back on two busy weekends of performances, what an adventure it was. Between the rain showers and storms, the Players performed to lots of highly entertained audiences all over the county. 'A Few Crusted Characters' is finished, but maybe we'll return to it another day...

Many thanks to Dorset Morri'arty for these terrific pictures of our performance at Holme for Gardens, before the storm blew in!

'A Few Crusted Characters' is full of characters, in all senses of the word! Here are a few of them.

We had a wonderful time yesterday afternoon in the atmospheric Maumbury Rings, performing for by far our biggest crowd yet! Over 150 of Dorchester's residents turned out to enjoy our show. They laughed, they cried (although that might have just been the hayfever...) but all had an excellent time.

This weekend we're at Holme for Gardens and Minterne House. Tickets via Dorchester Arts: https://www.dorchesterarts.org.uk/2025/04/24/june-2025-dorset-tour-dates-a-few-crusted-characters-the-new-hardy-players/

Many thanks to Ben for the snaps.

The New Hardy Players would like it to be known that today's Met Office yellow thunderstorm warning finishes at 6pm, so tonight's performance of 'A Few Crusted Characters' at 7.30 will be drier than last night's opening night!

Thank you very much to the 'select' hardy (ho-ho) souls who enjoyed an intimate performance at Abbotsbury Swannery yesterday evening. We'll be there again tonight! Gates at 6.30 for picnicking; tickets available on-the-door: £15/£10.
