RACHEL HODGSON (WRITER/POPPY)

Having trained at Bretton Hall College in the late 1970’s, Rachel became Head of Drama at Kettlethorpe High School in Wakefield. Having retired (early!) she became a founder member of SRM Theatre Company www.youtube.com/ When not flexing her acting muscles she enjoys singing in a Soul Choir and spoiling her two cats.

CHRIS DEERING (DANNY)

Actor/musician - trained at Bretton Hall, Chris worked in Interplay Theatre Co, before becoming Head of Drama at Holmfirth High School. Following this he worked in publishing; as a teacher in special education; and as a counsellor. He is a member of SRM and plays guitar with The Remnants.

IZZY SEARLE

Izzy Searle is an award-winning writer and script supervisor with a First-Class degree in Creative Writing at Warwick University. She has written theatre for Pentabus, The Writing Shed, 53Two, Rising Pheonix, The International Network of Italian Theatre, and she has two film commissions and a TV script editing credit (under NDA). Izzy holds several poetry publications, including Lucent Dreaming, and two short film scripts in preproduction. In their four-star review of Baggy Bra, Upstaged Manchester wrote “Izzy Searle’s writing is warm, witty, and playful ... just as important as it is hilarious.” Her play ‘Baggy Bra’ won Best Comedy Play at the Greater Manchester Fringe. Outside of writing, Izzy runs her local Scout Troop.

JULIA BISBY

Julia is a Sheffield based actor in her 40s represented by Factor Management with experience in film, short film, TV and stage. Most recently she performed here at CAST doing a comedy sketch that she co-wrote for CAST scratch event. One-third of Usual Void Theatre, Julia co-runs scratch events in Sheffield and loves to see new writing. A lover of comedy and live performance she is so excited to be part of this event.

CLIVER PALMER

I’m been singing as a semi-professional for 20yrs. My favourite genre is Swing and American Song book. Presently I’m pursuing a career in screen acting and have appeared in Downton Abbey as a WW1 soldier. I just love performing 🎭

I cannot wait to see Dr Flo in the second half of the show! As we welcome Julia, the return of Clive and fantastic writing 🤩

Bios: Charlie Richardson is a Sheffield based actor/writer & director of Usual Void theatre Co. Her writing focuses on the rhythms of natural northern dialogue, and she has a strong focus on placing female roles at the centre of her work. Malcolm Lomax is a prominent menber of Sheffield University Drama Socisty and is a senior lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

We are delighted to welcome this team into our first half!

GRAHAM BIBBY

Graham Bibby is a local poet, writer, and playwright.
He has written many poems and short stories which have been recorded and aired on Radio Sheffields Upload show.
He has also had short stories published in print and a short play performed at the Pen Theatre in London.
The same play, ‘(Not) Planning Ahead’ has also been recorded and played on Radio Sheffield Staring Kellie Flatley and Marie Farmer.

MARIE FARMER

I’m delighted to be acting out Graham’s writing. I work in the public sector by day and combine that with my love of all things creative and soul-enhancing!

MICK CONNELL

‘Mick has been active in local theatre companies for over forty years. For most of that time he has been performing and directing with Sheffield University Drama Society. He has played a wide range of parts in plays by writers as various as Fo, Wertenbaker and Shakespeare. He has directed plays by Brian Friel, Brandon Thomas, Anne Devln and Shakespeare. Mick regularly directs shows for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He is currently directing ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ for the University Drama Studio, 9-12 April 2025.’

JOHN QUINN

John Quinn was a journalist until a deterioration in the neurological impairment he has had since childhood meant early retirement. Several years later, he took a playwriting course, wrote a monologue which it was suggested he should perform himself and despite never having been on stage since permashepherd days in school nativities he took it from there…

KEVIN WALKER

Kevin is proud to be born and bred in Doncaster. He writes comedic monologues, mainly set in the fictional village of Grimstone Low, which he often performs at open mics.
One of his poems was judged to be "The funniest poem in the world" at the Wetherby Festival.
