STONKING QUIZ THIS SUNDAY, RESERVES FINAL, HANDICAPS and OTHER QUIZZES LINK

Hey everyone, some news:

1. This week's quiz is moving to Sunday (due to work commitments). It'll be at the same time and will feature the usual creative and challenging questions... and a bit more! See https://www.facebook.com/events/1090679028103367 for details.

2. This Saturday is the Champions League reserves final. Steve Kidd is our representative. You can watch it live by clicking on the reminder link here: https://www.facebook.com/speedquizzing/posts/2398721360251468

3. Confirmation of the handicap system, which means while the "big guns" are still expected to win, everyone is in with a fighting chance. The formula is as follows: TG/4 + AVE G – TG. (where TG = your team gross score and AVE G = everyone's average gross score. I take the average of the last three calculations.

SPEEDQUIZZING NEWS

Hey everyone, here's some quiz news for you:

1. This week's quiz topic is WALES on account of St David's Day yesterday. Also mini rounds on film posters in foreign languages, north Midlands towns and Pokémon.

2. There's a new handicap system in place, simplified by the equation h=s/4+150-s, where h=handicap and s=score (see image and graph). It will be averaged over time.

3. New experimental game mode in round 3 will be MASKED EXPOSURE. Everyone's answer will be on display, but not team names. If you don't know the answer, can you work out which exposed answer might be right?

Well done to Joe 'Fattening Frogs for Snakes' Taylor, winning a very hard quiz last night and getting through to Champions League on Saturday 6th March at 9pm (stream details to follow when known).

Well done also to Steve 'Play Ya Ya Ding D**g' Kidd, who is our reserve. Here are the full scores and new handicaps – there's a new simplified formula which is [(score x 0.25)+150]-score.

Ben's Speedquiz is ever-evolving, and this week there'll be several tweaks and innovations to improve your enjoyment.

FAST-TRACK REPLACED WITH PRIORITY BOARDING IN ROUND 3

In order to stop handicaps being unrepresentative, and for more fairness, but at the same time still giving lower placed teams a chance to catch up a bit, Fast-track is being replaced. When none of the top two are correct, Priority Boarding means the fastest team jumps the queue and gets a cool 25 points (or one point more than the leader if within 25 points). This will apply to all of round 3.

RANDOM TEAM CHOOSES NEXT WEEK'S NEW VOTABLE ROUND

Rather than me choosing the topics each week, I'll use a random number generator to select one team to choose the next topic for inclusion in next week's vote in round 4. Hope you'll have a good specialist subject in mind.

SPECIAL GAME MODE IN ROUND 5

Special game modes will move to round 5. This week's mode is Bare-naked Leaders at Each Other's Mercy. That means the top three (whose answers are exposed) must all get the question right for any of them to score points. This could result in some interesting strategies and outcomes!

NEAREST WINS REPLACED WITH BONUS QUESTION

At the end of the quiz, again to stop unrepresentative handicaps and to keep things fair (but still giving an exciting climax) instead of Nearest Wins we'll have a bonus question. It'll be harder than most questions and worth double points compared to the rest of round 5 (ie. 12 points plus 10 bonus).

DYNAMIC HANDICAP SYSTEM

So that your handicap is more representative, your actual handicap will be the average of your three last week's calculated handicaps. Each week's calculated handicap is 250 minus your gross score (if you score over 250), or 200 minus your gross score (if you score under 200), otherwise 0.
