We provide music & media industry services and opportunities across the Yorkshire region including two recording studios, a licensed radio station, a recor

d label, digital distribution, events promotion, artist development programmes, enterprise support, courses (including national & higher national diplomas) and volunteering opportunities. Higher Rhythm is unique regionally, providing the entire music and radio industries in one place which offers a hub of opportunities that people can easily access to develop their knowledge, practice or careers. Place shouldn’t be a barrier to the music or media industries, and we aim to level the playing-field by assuring our opportunities are accessible to, and representative of the Yorkshire region’s communities, engaging people who live in towns and villages, as well as the cultural industry hot-spots of cities. Higher Rhythm also delivers a range of projects, working with local, national and international partners / funding bodies, to increase participation in the activities we provide and widen access to the music and media industries.

It’s been such a rewarding week…

We opened up access to the studio for two days for family creative learning sessions, as part of the Doncaster Remake Learning Festival. It’s been genuinely heartwarming to see families making music together, and our students running and engineering the sessions ❤️

On Thursday night, our very own Zawedde Walusimbi joined a panel as a speaker, alongside South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard at Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield, to launch the South Yorkshire Creative and Cultural Investment framework. Go Zawe 🙌🏻

Seeing a younger generation come through our organisation and start to make their mark in our industries is what we're all about 💪🏻

Big love to Studiocare Professional Audio Ltd.
and / Extinct Audio for helping us finish off these additional two outboard racks in the studio.

The team at StudioCare gave us great deals on the Rupert Neve
500 chassis and modules by Heritage Audio
and Xaudia were far too kind in pricing the mods and donating the Empirical Labs, Inc.
FATSO to keep our distressors company!

Special thanks to the repair team at StudioCare for sorting out our vintage Drawmer compressor, and also the oddest compressor we've ever owned, the Mikale Meekski which is rumoured to be able to channel the spirit of it’s eccentric circuit designer, Joe Meek every time it's turned on 👻

Claude, can you mic up that guitar cab?

Gemini, can you patch me in that valve compressor?

Chat GPT, can you run me that multi-core to the monitor desk?

Hey Siri… actually, let's just forget about that one 😆

AI can be useful, we get it, we even use it, and it can really speed up some processes. BUT, it sucks the joy out of creativity, and it's never going to do what you're going to learn about on our National Diploma in Music Technology.

Future-proof yourself with some real human Music Industry skills that a computer is never going to take away from you.

Really important conversation this.

A lot of people still look at music careers as a single breakthrough moment, but the reality is usually much more layered than that. Building something sustainable often means wearing multiple hats, learning the industry as you go, and continuing to create even when there’s no immediate payoff.

Worth a read for anyone trying to navigate the realities of building a career in music today.
