Nature Rangers Nature Rangers, Curiosity and Craft Club by Armthorpe Parish Council

01/02/2024

What a fun session at Eco Club this week! We learnt about the importance of our native blooms and the bugs that help to pollinate. Made our own seed bombs using all compostable materials and native flowers. Looked at life cycles of butterflies and designed a few of our own species too! The children even had hands on experience with the resident walking stick insects and stag beetles as well as getting the chance to check out some more unusual and unique specimens under a magnifying glass.

Thank you Shaw Wood Academy for inviting me again. Everyone enjoyed today's session and really engaged in all the activitieson offer. Asking lots (and lots and lots!) of questions.
Big thank you to for kindly donating some of the wonderful specimens of butterflies-we may have a few future entomologists, they were immensely fascinated!

The artwork from PROTECT OUR OCEANS Week is up on the board. We used recycled packaging to show how similar plastic looks to a jellyfish, sadly something marine life struggle with every day. Got creative with cardboard tubes for some super seahorses and totally awesome turtles! We got messy with paint to create the statement pieces of "Leave Only Foot Prints" to promote the cleanup of our planets beaches by making sure our litter goes home with us and the only thing we should ever leave behind are footprints.
Well done to our very creative Planet Heroes!
Can you spot your creations on the board?!

You can't have a Curiosity & Crafts Club with out the curious.......
Play in the Small World Rock Pool and identify the creatures in there. We helped Duffy the Sea Turtle and her friends by cleaning the ocean of plastic. In the sand pit we created the catch of the day.....and the not the kind you want on your dinner plate, oh no! These were made from litter from the shoreline.
Lots of ocean books to enjoy and games to play like the play fossil dig!
And of course the Observation Station with lots of different real coral, ancient ocean fossils (some at least 300 million years old! Sharks teeth and starfish to get up close under the magnifying glass.

Every Thursday through the school holidays
