Every work starts with a precise and detailed plan, long before the material takes shape. A sturctured architectural plan is essential, this is the foundation of the process. The design is carefully scaled up, the proportions are carefully calculated before being transferred onto the base surface. After proper surface preparation and chemical treatment does the sculpting phase begin. 🖤✨

🇬🇧/🇭🇺 Restoration of an early 19th century empire mirror frame

This early 19th-century mirror frame arrived in severely damaged condition; dimensions: 55 x 67 inches.
The mirror was missing, the frame worn and scratched, the decorations incomplete and heavily oxidized, the original back panel completely broken.

During the work I restored the original structure of the frame, replaced the missing parts, cleaned and conserved, stabilized the frame and its back panel, finally, we fitted a mirror in the frame.

Ez a korai XIX. századi tükörkeret súlyosan megrongálódott állapotban érkezett hozzám; mérete: 1.40 m x 1.70 m.
A tükör hiányzott, a keret kopottan és karcosan, a díszítések hiányosan és erősen oxidálódtan, az eredeti hátlap pedig teljesen törötten.

A restaurálás során visszállítottam a keret eredeti struktúráját, pótoltam a hiányzó részeket, megtisztítottam és konzerváltam, stabilizáltam a keretet és a hátlapját, valamint tükröt illesztettünk bele.

✨ 🎉 Glimpse into the works of Nyugati (West) Railway Station - including the restoration personally worked on. (Kérlek, görgess le a magyar verzióért.)

Each heritage project takes time from preparation to completion. For me, this commission came quite unexpectedly. Since the details are confidental, not common to share details before a project is completed. I took on the restoration of these gypsum pilasters as a side project, which arrived in severely damaged condition (cracked, fragmented, even with silicone trapped in the details). Completed the work with precision and care. It truly was a passion project as Nyugati Railway Station is one of Budapest's iconic buildings, one that Eiffel worked on.

After completing my part of restoration, the team installed these pilasters in their rightful place on the wall. I’m beyond delighted that the entire building has been fully restored, even the forgotten sections, - such as the Royal Waiting Hall, - have been beautifully revived and regained their former glory. ✨ This annex building we worked on has now been transformed into the Nyugati Railway Station Government Office.

The final works were completed by Grimshaw Global (UK) and the Magyar Építő Zrt (HUN). While further developments are still planned, the restoration and architectural phases are officially completed.

✨ Most már hivatalosan is befejeződött! 🎉 Íme a betekintés a munkálatokba - köztük az általam készített restaurációba is.

Minden örökségvédelmi projekt hosszú folyamat, az előkészítéstől egészen a kivitelezésig. Számomra ez a megbízás teljesen váratlanul jött. A gipsz pilaszterek erősen megrongálódott állapotban érkeztek hozzám: betörten, darabosan, illetve szilikon is szorult a részletgazdag díszítések közé - ez azt jelenti, hogy aláfordulásos volt a vett minta.

A munkát nagy precizitással és figyelemmel végeztem, időt és energiát nem kímélve.
Számomra érzelmileg is fontos volt ez a feladat, ugyanis a Nyugati Pályaudvar az egyik legikonikusabb budapesti épület, amin Eiffel maga is dolgozott. Miután a restaurálás befejeződött, a csapat elvitte és méltó helyükre illesztette ezeket a pilasztereket a mennyezeten. Ezt a melléképületet, amelyre az ornamensek kerültek, a Nyugati Pályaudvar Kormányablakává avanzsálták.

Mivel az efféle projektek részletei bizalmasak, titoktartás védi a munkálati folyamatokat, mostantól viszont publikussá válhatnak a részletek.

Nagyon örülök, hogy az egész épület, sőt az elfeledett részei is - mint például a Királyi váró - visszanyerték eredeti pompájukat a project során!
A befejező munkálatokat a brit Grimshaw Global cég végezte a Magyar Építő Zrt.-vel párhuzamosan. Bár további fejlesztési tervek is vannak, a restaurálási és renoválási szakasz hivatalosan lezárult.

✨ Special projects have just been completed - the full restoration of the historic Nyugati (West) Railway Station in Budapest. 🤍
The entire building complex has regained its former glory!

It’s been an honour to take part personally in this large-scale heritage renovation.
Originally designed by French architect Auguste de Serres, with the structural engineering led by Gustave Eiffel and his company Eiffel & Cie, the station has always been a masterpiece of 19th-century industrial architecture.

The new projects included the restoration of the Royal Waiting Hall, the Cegléd Hall, the façades, decorative elements, and the iconic iron structure.
The station also will receive a new, modern, architectural extensions for train operations. The design are truly brilliant!

Soon I’ll share a closer look at the specific part I worked on - the pilasters and decorative details of one of the restored parts of the renovation projects.

✨ Különleges projekt zárult most le: a Nyugati Pályaudvar visszanyerte egykori fényét 🤍
Nagy öröm volt személyesen részt venni az értékmegőrzésben!

A pályaudvar eredetileg Auguste de Serres francia építész tervei alapján épült, Gustave Eiffel mérnöki irányításával.
A 19. században ez az épület Európa egyik legmodernebb vasútállomásának számított.

A legújabb projektekben a teljes épület és melléképületei - köztük a Királyi váró, a Ceglédi váró, a homlokzatok, a díszítőelemek és a vasszerkezetek - teljeskörűen megújultak.
Az épület új, modern, építészeti kitoldásokat is fog kapni a vonatok állomásoztatásának korszerűsítésére. Szerintem az eredmény egyszerűen zseniális lesz!

Büszkeség, hogy részese lehettem ennek a hatalmas történeti rekonstrukciónak.

🇬🇧 Where craftsmanship meets the science of restoration - replace a missing element

I carry out the reconstruction of missing artefact elements with sub-millimetre precision. The process begins with documenting the original object and taking detailed geometric measurements of the missing section. The replacement piece is then shaped from the appropriate timber using hand tools, ensuring complete alignment of the grain and material structure. I was fortunate to have in storage an original, period-matching wood element a remnant from a 1920s cabinet. ☺️❤️

The surface is coloured using custom-mixed pigments and traditional, yet material-friendly techniques, ensuring that the replacement integrates harmoniously with the original in both appearance and composition. Every intervention is structurally integrated, visually unobtrusive, yet fully reversible.

🇭🇺 Ahol a kézművesség találkozik a restaurátori tudománnyal - pótlás készítés

A hiányzó műtárgyelemek rekonstrukcióját centimétertűrésnél is kisebb pontossággal végzem. A folyamat az eredeti tárgy dokumentálásával és a hiányzó rész geometriai felmérésével kezdődik. Ezután a pótlás darabját a megfelelő faanyagból, kézi szerszámokkal formázom, a szálirány és anyagszerkezet teljes egyezésére törekedve. Szerencsés voltam, mert pont volt a raktáron korabeli és egyező faelem, ami anno egy 1920-as szekrényből maradt hátra. ☺️❤️

A felületet egyedileg kevert pigmentekkel és hagyományos, ugyanakkor anyagkímélő eljárásokkal színezem, hogy a pótlás vizuálisan és anyagában is harmonikusan illeszkedjen az eredetihez. Minden beavatkozás szerkezetileg integrált, vizuálisan észrevétlen, de bármikor visszafordítható.

🇬🇧 Where the work meets endless beauty:
Restoration of a Florentine Painting frame - technique

This 18th-century frame came to me darkened by oxidation, cracked, and damaged in several places. After cleaning, structural repairs, and regilding, it has regained its original luster.
Gilding is one of the most delicate restoration techniques. Preparing the surface, smoothing the bole layer, and applying the gold leaf and paste requires great skill and patience.

This piece is a particularly beautiful example of Florentine Baroque-style frames. 🖤

Ez a 18. századi keret sötéten oxidálódva, töredezetten és több helyen sérülten került hozzám. A tisztítás, szerkezeti javítás és újraaranyozás után visszanyerte eredeti fényét.
Az aranyozás az egyik legérzékenyebb restaurátortechnika. A felület előkészítése, a bolus réteg simítása, majd az aranylapok felvitele nagy gyakorlatot és türelmet igényel.

Ez a darab különösen szép példája a florentin barokk stílusú kereteknek. 🖤
