Trying to plan a day out in Derby that keeps everyone happy is harder than it sounds. So we've pulled together our top 10 family activities in the city, from letting the kids loose at Markeaton Park to wobbling round the roller rink at Derby Arena, with a stop at Bluebell Dairy for ice cream along the way.

And yes, an escape room made the list. We may be ever so slightly biased on that one.

A weekend idea for parents with kids climbing the walls.

If you’ve got a group of kids to entertain this weekend, a birthday party, a half-term meet-up, or just a Saturday that isn’t the park again, come and see us.

Sixty minutes in one of our rooms. Up to 8 of them together in The Grand Heist, smaller groups in the other two. They work as a team to crack the puzzles and beat the clock. No phones. No adult refereeing. Just them and the room.

The bit parents tell us afterwards is how quickly a group of kids turns into a proper team. Ten minutes in, they’ve sorted out who’s doing what. Twenty minutes in, they’re shouting clues across the room. When the door opens they come out talking over each other, retelling the same story six different ways.

All three rooms are family-friendly. No scary stuff. Ages 10 up (under 16s with a grown-up).

£20-£25 per player. Central Derby, food and drinks two minutes down the road for after.
