The concerts are almost here and what a treat is in store for you if you come along and listen! We asked Trish, George and Jez to tell us what the Mozart and Beethoven trios mean to them as players. Trish said it is like taking part in an engaging conversation full of differing textures, moods and colours; for George these are two of the greatest works in the string repertoire which are a joy to play and for Jez the Beethoven trio, written as a young man, is a remarkable forerunner of the drama found in Beethoven’s later works for which he is famed. Come along and see what you think of these magnificent works! It promises to be cool break from the heatwave, other than the welcome which, of course, will be very warm!

The Lyric Trio will be playing on Friday 26 June at 7 pm at The Laughing Monk in Strete; on Saturday 27 June the concert is at Great Hall Dartington at 6pm and the final concert is at the Ashburton Arts Centre on Sunday 28 June at 3pm.

Come and join us for an evening of wonderful classical music with the Lyric String Trio playing two timeless and magnificent masterpieces. You will find this to be an evening of contrasts! Starting with Mozart’s charming and graceful Divertimento in Eb Major, it is followed by the dramatic intensity of Beethoven’s String Trio in C Minor. In the Divertimento you will hear some of Mozart’s catchiest tunes in what is considered to be one of the glories of chamber music. By contrast Beethoven’s C minor trio is a true masterpiece - passionate, highly dramatic with a heavenly slow moment!

There is so much to enjoy and you can listen to this wonderful trio playing at The Laughing Monk, Strete on Friday 26 June at 7pm, or at the Great Hall in Dartington on Saturday 27 June at 6pm or at Ashburton Arts Centre at 3pm on Sunday 28 June.

Tickets available for Strete on www.lyricchmberorchestra.com/nextconcerts; for Dartington on www.ticket.dartington.org; and for Ashburton www.ashburtonarts.org.uk;

Do come along and support hugely talented musicians living in South Devon!

Following the interval you will be completely captivated by Dohnanyi’s Serenade, a masterpiece of rich contrasts which allows each instrument in the trio to have its moment in the spotlight before coming together in fast and furious style to take your breath away! The Lyric String Trio gave two truly fabulous performances at Strete and Totnes last weekend and they will be performing again this weekend at St Gabriel and St Mary’s Church in Stoke Gabriel at 7.30 on Saturday 6 June and at the Ashburton Arts Centre at 3pm on Sunday 7 June.

The background music here is the Lyric String Trio’s performance of Bach’s Organ Sonata No. 4 arranged by Ben Cruft; a wonderful melodic and lyrical piece. Bach’s baroque themes are wonderfully enhanced in this arrangement and it proved to be the start of an extraordinary and special evening of music. Kodaly’s Intermezzo is a piece rich with Hungarian folk melodies and a rhythmic energy that captivated our audience. Schubert’s Trio was a perfect contrast being a joyful piece full of warmth and optimism. The concert ended with Dohnanyi’s Serenade which was a masterpiece of rich contrasts. We moved from the romantic and lyrical to the playful and witty. The supreme skill of the trio was warmly appreciated by the audience. This coming weekend is the last chance to come along to hear this wonderful programme of music and we would love to see you there!
