The choir singing Benjamin Britten's 'Rejoice in the Lamb' as part of our Spring concert, on Saturday night, in the stunning Wellington College chapel. We were pleased to welcome 8 singers from Royal Holloway College who performed beautiful solo parts in this piece. There was excellent feedback from the audience with some saying it was our best concert to date and how they enjoyed seeing Britten in a new light, in his redefining of spiritual expression for the modern age. Two other Britten pieces, 'Jubilate in C' and 'Festival Te Deum' continued this theme. Though separated by a century and shaped by very different musical contexts, Samuel Sebastian Wesley's music redefined and restored sacred music to Victorian Anglicism. This was beautifully illustrated by his moving 'Ascribe until the Lord' and 'Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace'. All in all a lovely evening and thank you to Simon Williamson, our musical director & to Simon Hogan who accompanied us on the organ

We are pleased to announce that tickets for our Spring concert, on 21st March, are now available from our website www.crowthornechoral.org.uk.

This will be a very enjoyable concert, featuring the contrasting music of Benjamin Britten and Samuel Sebastien Wesley. It is particularly appropriate in 2026 as this is the 50th year of Britten's death and the 150th year of Wesley's demise. The concert will include Wesley's beautiful 'Ascribe unto the Lord' and Britten's intriguing 'Rejoice in the Lamb' with its exuberant lyrics based on a poem written, in the 18th century, by the poet Christopher Smart from his asylum !

Our final concert of 2025 , the Family Carol Concert, was held at St John the Baptist church in Crowthorne . It was a great evening , much enjoyed by our enthusiastic audience ( who knew there were so many competent whistlers able to participate in ‘ I Saw 3 Ships’ 😉😄)

Thank you to all who came & to the very efficient team at St John’s. Also thank you to Simon Williamson, our musical director, who led the fun & to Simon Dinsdale, our accompanist, who had to step in at the last minute as poor Jack Thompson, our usual accompanist, was ill.

We would like to thank the enthusiastic audience who attended our Autumn Choral & Concerto concert, in Wellington College's lovely GW Annenberg theatre, on a damp November evening.

We would also like to thank our Musical Director, Simon Williamson, who put together a beautiful repertoire that included the Durufle Requiem and Vaughan Williams '5 Mystical Songs'. The choir were joined by the Wellington College Parent Singers & Wellington College Chapel Choir and there was a full orchestra, with two impressive soloists - mezzo soprano Lara Rebekah Harvey and baritone Thomas Humphreys. Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.1 mvt.1 and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3 mvt.1 were beautifully performed by talented Wellington pupils, Stephanie O and Marcus Y, respectively.

Our final concert of 2025 will be a Family Carol Concert at St John the Baptist Parish Church, Waterloo Road, Crowthorne RG45 7NT, on Saturday 6th December. The concert starts at 6pm and we would love to welcome you there to listen to Christmas music and readings and of course join us in singing carols, with refreshments available afterwards.
