Opening this Thursday: The Sea, The Sea exhibition

Over recent years much of Ivy Smith’s work has been about the seaside, encompassing painting, drawing, etching and linocut. She explores what people do there, the very particular and impressive plants that grow there in their unpromising bed of sand and shingle, and the sea itself. Her small sea paintings included in the The Sea, The Sea exhibition, were painted from life from a beach hut in Cromer, with the sea constantly changing due to its movement, tides and the effects of light.

Opening event: Thursday 4 June, 5.30pm

Artist in Conversation: Tuesday 9 June, 6pm

Open Late: Thursday 11 June 6pm-8pm

Art talk - 23 June, 6-7pm

Karen Taylor, the Collections & Exhibitions Curator at Towner Eastbourne , returns to Cromer in June to share the remarkable story of Lucy Wertheim — art patron, gallery owner and champion of many of the artists featured in this year’s Bigger Picture exhibition.

Karen contributed to the recent re‑publication of Wertheim’s autobiography Adventures in Art, offering fresh insight into a woman whose passion for supporting young artists helped shape British Modernism.

Wertheim’s impact was extraordinary: she gifted more than 500 works to regional, national and international museums, ensuring that the artists she believed in were seen, researched and remembered. Her motivation never wavered — “to do all I can to provide an opportunity for artists to gain recognition while they are still fairly young and certainly before their death when the vultures descend.”

This promises to be a fascinating and inspiring talk, shining a light on a visionary whose generosity still resonates today.

Tickets are £5 and can be booked on our website: https://cromer-artspace.uk/event/towner-eastbourne-comes-to-cromer-literally/

Solstice cyanotype talk and workshop

Join photographic artist Rachel Wright on the longest day of the year (21 June) for a hands‑on introduction to the luminous world of cyanotype.

Discover the history of one of photography’s earliest printing techniques, then step outside to try it yourself.

Using midsummer sunlight, found objects and hand‑coated papers, you’ll create vivid blue prints that celebrate texture, chance and the slow, tactile magic of analogue image‑making.

Tickets are £20, book on our website: https://cromer-artspace.uk/event/solstice-cyanotypes/
