Thank you to everyone who came to the Open Day at St. Bart’s. It was so good to reconnect with old Friends and make new ones. And I’ll never get bored seeing the reactions of people visiting the building for the first time. Miles and Katy led a steady stream of Tours up the tower - to Stuart who ruled the roof all day - and brought them all safely back to earth.

Tony Berridge’s Introductions to the organ were both very well attended and, despite the organ pump trying its best to interrupt, really informative.

Thank you to Tony, and our wonderful committee member volunteers - Miles and Katy, along with Angela and Sue. And former members Ian and Alan. Special mention must go to Tim - who locked and unlocked the tower and joined Jacqui, Margaret, Carol and Charmaine demonstrating the art of bellringing.

It would not have happened as well or at all without their considerable efforts.

Thanks - and let’s do it all again next year!

Jon, Chairman, Friends of St Bart’s.

We’ve had three successful tours up the tower - with a few drops of rain that didn’t disrupt anything. This afternoon is look set fairer (0% chance of rain for the last two tours).

So we have places on this afternoon’s tours at 2pm (hurry!), 3 pm and 4pm. £5 for adults, £2 for 8 to 17 year olds.

Also we had a full house for Tony Berridge’s interesting talk and organ demonstration. There are places available for the 2 o’clock. It’s Free; donations welcome.

Weeks of blazing sun… massive downpour last week… back to sun… patchy today… but Monday’s looking promising for the Tower Tours. Whatever happens, the magnificent Grade 1 listed building will be open - why not pop in for tea and biscuits? If you’ve never been inside, take this opportunity - you won’t be disappointed. And at 12 and 2 you can learn all about the magnificent organ.

Next Monday, the August Bank Holiday, we can only hope that the weather is as glorious as it has been today. If it has been, we’d have escorted six groups up and down St. Bart’s Tower to enjoy fabulous views across town and surrounding countryside. Three parties in the morning at 10am, 11am and 12 noon and three in the afternoon at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. If there is rain and the tower steps are wet, we’ll have to cancel. Check here on the day for updates.

The church will be open and serving refreshments whatever the weather - and there will be an organ talk and demonstration at Noon and 2pm. Even if you just come in for a look around, you can enjoy hearing the organ trumpets. At 11am and 3pm there will be bell ringing.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Just WOW! At the sound check for this evening's concert we were blown away. The cello and piano combination sounds even better than we imagined it would. Do your ears a favour and come along. Tickets on sale on the door from 6.45pm.

We are really looking forward to this evening's concert at St. Bart's, a lot of which celebrates the beauty and strangeness of the natural world. Wonderful pieces inspired by the Firefly, Kingfisher and the Blue Whale... including a couple of premieres. And the programme will close with one of the greatest works ever written for cello: The Swan from 'Carnival of the Animals' by Saint-Saẽns. We're getting goose bumps (or even swan bumps!) just thinking about it. Tickets on sale on the door from 6.45pm - cash or card.

This will be a perfectly pitched evening... (And not just because the piano's just been tuned!)

It was boiling at yesterday's OPEN GARDENS. Today, It's the zone that includes Severalls Allotments - and it might even be hotter.

To start the day cool - and learn how to grow food for free from scraps most of us throw away - make your way to the air-conditioned Bank Holiday FUN-DAY at The George Reynolds Centre for 1pm.

Angus Lavery's presentation lasts about an hour - and he'll be around until the FUN-DAY finishes at 4pm to answer any questions you may have.

The OPEN GARDENS POP-UP TEA ROOM will be open at The George Reynolds Centre from 2.30pm.

(After you've visited The Speedwell's garden, pop into the quiet coolness of St. Bart's and admire the floral arrangements.)

If you’re in Crewkerne and can get to St. Bart’s by 7pm and have nothing fabulous planned, may we suggest coming to listen to Parnham Voices singing joyfully.

We are listening to the rehearsal and is sounding sublime. The light streaming through the windows is adding to the atmosphere as are the special floral arrangements.

We can all but guarantee you will leave feeling joyous!

Tickets £10 on the door - free for unaccompanied under 18s. Bar open from 6.30 and in the interval.
