I recently accepted a challenge to create a multi-layered map of ‘The Bundy’, a housing estate in Glasgow from the 1950s, as a birthday present. Unfortunately, the area was completely flattened and subsequently replaced by a shopping centre - so very little information was available and certainly nothing digital!. After extensive research, I managed to track down an old scanned map of the area and was able to create this unique multi-layered wood veneer map of the roads and housing development from the 1950's - which was a perfect trip down memory lane for the recipient.

Time for a slightly different style of map… sometimes simplicity is the key!!

Check out this single layer relief engraved map of the Isle of Bute a small island situated of the west of coast of Scotland. Traditionally I build up the layers to the maps I create - but with this particular map I actually engraved the sea, major roads and waterways - leaving the island, surrounding landmasses in their original light birch veneer wood colour.
