I really like this cigarette card. Such a useful tip. How to deal with a burning skirt.
Of course, this was a far more common occurrence back in the early 20th century. Open fires and long clothes.
Please take care out there ladies.
Cigarette cards were a way of stiffening the packet originally. Then they started being printed up with all kinds of information. Soon becoming increasingly collectable. Children collected them avidly. Which would be frowned on now of course. But this one was from a series of household tips. Not really for children. I have a good idea that a teacher on the floor with her skirt on fire might amuse one or two of them.

Another Birthday today. This gentleman is still going strong, aged 83. Paul Jones, who sang with Manfred Mann all those years ago. I was quietly in Love with him in 1964.
A formidable Blues singer and harmonica virtuoso, Paul has gone on to become an expert on Blues, and is still performing. Saw him a few years ago on a tour where he and some of the Manfreds performed the entire album The Five Faces of Manfred Mann.
An album, or LP, I had from day one. I met him afterwards in the foyer and gave him a kiss on his astonished cheek. I said " That's from 1964"
I completely forgot I am no longer 13 years old.

Magazines have such friendly faces, I think. The illustration on the covers is superb. I am slightly odd I suppose, collecting whole mags just for the covers. I'm not a Motorist. And I am certainly not Practical. But these 1950s beauties assail my tired old eyes with a kind of painful joy. But friendly.

My Mum and me. In 1952.
I think my Dad entered this into a photographic competition in the Lucas's In House magazine, which was called " Reflections"
It was my first modelling assignment.

Some recent portraits of some good guys. Each face is life-size, as usual. Then I buy second hand canvas prints. I cut out the portraits and stick them in place. So the final 2 canvases here are about 4 ft by 18 inches. I hope you like them, people !
The Highwaymen have one member still live and kicking, Mr Willie Nelson. Aged 91. ( Second from right.) The Band have all gone now, sadly. I saw them backing Bob Dylan in 66.
Americana at its best. Though 4 of the Band were Canadian!!
I like them all on these sunsetty background prints.
