Rockabye Choir

Come and sing whether your baba is newborn or bouncing, just pre-toddling, sleeping or feeding, this morning choir is great for meeting other mums and doing something special. Expectant mums and child free women welcome too.

There is much new evidence to show that singing in a group enhances mood through the release of endorphins. Current research is showing that singing in a choir can provide a balm for post-natal depression and anxiety. This choir will provide a mutually supportive activity which will be both calm and gentle, energising and uplifting. It’s good for every body!

Learn lullabies and lilting songs from around the world many handed down through generations of mothers. There is strength to be found in the music of traditions old and new, so there will also be songs with a funky flavour , folk songs from old and contemporary composers, acapella tunes written by living composers who write especially for women’s voices, a wealth of beautiful songs from aural traditions from around the world rhythmical or soothing .So you might find yourself crooning a Scottish blessing, humming a Maori lullaby, blending your voices in a Georgian healing song or ramping it up with a bluesey round in a gospel style.

Emily is a member of the Natural Voice Network who's ethos “ celebrate the voice your were born with” .

She teaches songs by ear at a steady pace so everything is accessible. No jargon or need to read music. She also chooses repertoire carefully so that everyone can be part of something magical and powerful. She likes to mix up singing during a session as a fun participatory activity and a more contemplative experience. Rock-a-bye Choir will be a welcoming place to sing .

There will be some bean bags so you don't need to hold your baba all the time or use a sling but it might be useful to bring a cloth or small blanket. You may feed walk , change , rock your baby anything goes to make the session comfortable and enjoyable for both you and your baby
