‘Mr and Mrs Somebody’ were shortlisted for the Monkton Arts Prize Exhibition.
So pleased to find out they have sold and gone to a new home. I have no idea who bought them! Thank you to for putting on such an eclectic exhibition, and for selling them for me!Very much appreciated.
My piece is a response to realising that as we get older we become less visible, and feeling there is not a place in society for the older generation anymore. Maybe even seen as a burden.
Please make up your own stories of their names and lives they have lived as they are imaginary characters who emerge from the board after hours and hours!!
I wanted my couple to be seen, observed, be thought about, so that maybe we will remember to do the same with real ‘oldies’ in our communities.

On it seemed appropriate to share the second painting showing bandaged faces post cosmetic surgery. I would never judge, am just curious. The inflated lips smothered in lipstick, now smeared across the bruised and swollen face highlight the flaw in trying to cover up what is beneath.
I want the viewer to question what makes this person go to such extremes. To look into their eyes and make up their own back story.

Whilst in the flow of painting faces I have been thinking that maybe producing a range of cards/prints with captions just as a sideline to my more serious pieces. Claudia’s one is ‘Never seen The Traitors’, then ‘Gary in his five quid reading glasses from TKMAXX’, working on the next image’s caption, and the last one is ‘Make-up free Day’. Aiming to paint a few more this weekend.

‘Are you going out out? Yeah, off to Asda’
Have been enjoying painting without considering it being of commercial value, or even if anyone might like it!! It’s hard to allow yourself to be free!
I have been painting clown faces and this was the natural progression into today’s distorted perception of beauty and the need,by some, to change their appearance to the extreme. Hopefully in a humorous way 😃.
Original artwork 62cm sq. acrylic on board in white frame. £500 (if anyone did like it!)
