Rites of Passage Productions Ltd, (ROPP) is a fresh and creative production house, based in Coventry

At the heart of our work we engage with marginalised communities and individuals, the education sector and with other institutions whilst working creatively towards transformation, Social change, cultural competency and the celebration of heritage. National statistics and research show that a growing number of younger individuals especially from BAME communities, to name a few, are failing at scho

ol, falling into the Criminal justice system and are turning to alternative lifestyles that not only exclude them from society, but place them into categories at the mercy of social, political and media representation. We at ROPP strongly believe that these representations often neglect or are ignorant towards the root causes of the deep seated issues that lead to some of the outcomes mentioned above. With creative expression, injustice, hope, achievement and transformation as key stimuli, ROPP desire to counter act and explore the growing trend of low self-concept, dis-empowerment, social exclusion and systematic failure through the artistic services, programs and products we produce, offer and deliver.

“Community & Education”-
Grounded within traditions of ritual, applied and transformative theatre, as a means to explore and awaken the capacity for transformation, ROPP produces and deliver short, mid and long term programs and projects for schools and community organisations. At the core of our community and education engagement we offer the opportunity for individuals and groups to embark on creative journey’s that will enable them to discover and deeply consider relevant themes and subject matters that are relatable and transferable to their everyday lives. With powerful, motivational and highly thought-provoking, pieces of contemporary theatre as main reference points and stimulus’ for discussion, ROPP seeks to assist any syllabus, thematic study and subject matter, whilst contributing to the progression of creative learning and the gaining of new perspectives and insights to support individuals and groups to move forward positively. “Theatre and Film Production”-
We at ROPP a long with a growing number of creative artists who work with us believe that Theatre and film should be used as tools to truthfully depict humanity’s diversity, to challenge, inspire, inform, motivate and lastly to entertain. It is our vision to continually build upon and develop our infrastructure of collaborators and creative practitioners that produce professional and high quality Theatre and Film productions that are grounded within the narratives and realities of individuals and communities that are considered marginalised and hard to reach. To impact the lives of people through Theatre and Film is one of the main driving forces of ROPP. It is our mission when embarking on any production, to stay faithful to the construction of a creative journey that feeds the spirit and celebrates life by exploring strategies for survival, transformation and prosperity.

CONTRIBUTORS CALL OUT!!

Rites of Passage Productions are filming a short documentary on Anti-Racism.
This film will be shared within secondary schools as part of an Anti-racism campaign.
We are looking for West Midlands-based individuals from all walks of life and different ages to be interviewed and share their thoughts, lived experiences, and feelings about Racism and what it means to be Anti-Racist.

Filming will be taking place next week Thursday 7th and Friday 8th of September in Birmingham.

We've been busy this week at
delivering a 3 day film project called 'REACH' with the year 9's

Over the last 3 days, students have been creatively exploring ambition, aspirations, inspiration and their hopes for the future!
The main aim of the 3 days is for them to produce a short film that will showcase their reflections, talents and unique voices.

Wow!
What a year...
we're grateful here at ROPP to say the least.
In the midst of a global pandemic that's affected so much, we've been so blessed to have stayed very busy this year.
However, we'll be honest and say it has been tough...
Using theatre, film & Drama to engage adults and young people across the country has been so rewarding...
It's been an honour to have worked alongside Grace Foundation with over 2000 students looking at;
Confidence, character, aspirations, county lines, knife crime, mental health, Anti-racism and Black History.
Also collaborating with the NHSbirmingham uk , Geese Theatre Company Catalyst4change and the Black country living museum has been amazing.
Before we 'wrap' up for Christmas 😉, we just want to say a HUGE thank you to every creative who has jumped on board the ROPP ship this year.
You know who you are!
you're all great!

This year’s Black History Month UK is celebrating the theme of ‘Proud To Be’. Across the country, people are sharing their stories and inspiring others to take pride in Black history and culture.

In collaboration with The Black Country Living Museum we were commissioned to produce four short films that celebrate the lives of four remarkable Black people. Written and directed by our very own Daniel Anderson.
This work spans stories from the nineteenth century up to the present day and is designed to encourage us all to think about how we are making history all the time in our own ways.

It's been a very busy month so far here at ROPP...
We were back delivering confidence workshops in Grace Academy Coventry with year 7's and delivered our 'From Noya' workshop, which explores mental health problems amongst young people.

We also creatively engaged over 250 year 8 and 9 students as part of Black History month in Lord Grey Academy last week. We creatively examined what it means to be inspired and delved into the lives and stories of some key individuals that have contributed to Black History in the UK. Cyrille Regis and Dianne abbott to name a few.

We had a powerful time at Rushden Academy today unravelling the harsh and upsetting realities of knife crime and the impact it has on families...

The next 3 days are huge, as we roll out our brand new County Lines workshop in Grace Academy Darlaston which is spearheaded by a powerful illustrated radio play called 'ESCAPE'
