Introducing Couple No.20 - Melanie & Hayden:
Melanie says "As a registered blind person, I know how isolating disability can be. Just leaving the house can be a huge challenge, and meeting people and socialising is especially stressful. Loneliness, depression and associated mental health problems are much more common in disabled people. CWW Mind are a fantastic charity that supports all of us during difficult times. I am always pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, to explore who I am and what I can achieve. In 2024, I became the first blind woman to swim the English Channel. And this year, I have learnt to dance! For many years I hid myself away, feeling embarrassed about who I was. But now I am proud of who I am; I am blind and hold my head up high. After all, it’s my life, it’s now or never."
Hayden says "Having competed in two Strictly competitions, my love for dance has grown stronger with every performance. What began as an exciting challenge has now become a true passion, and I’m eager to keep progressing and pushing myself further. I recently completed my first set of dance exams, a milestone I’m incredibly proud of, and I’m excited to continue developing both my technique and performance. Dancing has given me confidence, joy, and unforgettable experiences — and I can’t wait to see where the journey takes me next."
