I've been a little quiet on here lately as we've been navigating some family health challenges — but the artist in me never truly switches off. Even during the tougher days, I had my camera with me, always looking for sparks of inspiration.

Recently, I captured a few special photos that stood out not just as beautiful moments, but as meaningful ones too. They’re connected to a cause close to my heart: . These young people do so much, and it was wonderful to see raise funds and hand out Easter eggs to so many of them. 💜

I’ve chosen three of those photos to turn into drawings. I won’t be posting regular updates on these as they’ll be happening alongside my commission work, but I’ll be sending the finished pieces to the group. They’re an incredible bunch, and my son and I had such a brilliant day with them.

🦁🎨 Lion Cub Update! 🎨🦁

This little cub has been keeping me busy! Spent the morning blocking in colour and adding some detail—still a way to go, but I’m on the home run! 🏁 It’s A2 size (which is huge for me), so my hands and eyes are demanding a tea break. ☕🐾

I’ll be adding a background soon, but for now, I’m giving my brain a little reset by working on something different tomorrow. Because, let’s be honest, if I stare at this cub much longer, he might start staring back! 👀😂

After a tough month, it feels amazing to be back in my creative flow. I actually wake up excited to start work—who knew that was possible?! Art has been my anchor, helping me regain control and happiness. If you’re struggling, I highly recommend picking up a pencil (or a paintbrush… or even a crayon—no judgment!).

Returning to Art After a Difficult Few Weeks

The past three weeks have been some of the hardest I’ve faced in a long time. A family emergency led to my partner being admitted to the hospital, and my own health took a hit as a result. Chronic fatigue and aching joints made everything feel like a struggle, and for a while, I had to step back from my art to focus on simply getting through each day. But today, I am back. Tomorrow, I will be at my drawing board again.

Through these difficult weeks, one thing has kept me grounded: planning new art pieces and observing the subtle shifts of spring. Even when I wasn’t drawing, I was looking—at the soft colours of spring approaching and the daylight encroaching into dark, winter nights. Art has taught me to pay attention to the world in a way I never did before.

Before I became an artist, anxiety would have consumed me. I would have retreated into my own mind, letting fear and worry spiral unchecked. But art has given me something to hold onto. It keeps me present, focused on the beauty that still exists even in the hardest moments. It has reminded me that creativity isn’t just about producing work—it’s about seeing, feeling, and being open to inspiration, even in life’s most difficult seasons.

So, as I return to my drawing board tomorrow, I do so with thanks. Thank you all for your patience and support—I can’t wait to share what’s next.
